Best Earbuds for iPad - Great Sound!

Updated on May 27, 2015

Are You Looking for Crisp Sound and Clear Tunes?

If you intend on having a superb music experience with your iPad, you should pair this lovely gadget with excellent quality ear buds. You wouldn't put a Walmart speaker on a $10,000 Gibson would you? Of course not. The sound you get is only as good as the speaker you are using and it is the same with ear buds because they are your speakers when you are listening to music with them. Now it's not necessary to spend big bucks to get good quality. However, don't expect to get much with buds in the single digit price range, but don't think you have to go into the triple digit to get anything worthwhile, either.

Below I have selected the best quality and variety of ear buds, for the price, that I could find. Some are more expensive, some are less, but if you want something of quality, you better plan on spending over $20 and if you want high quality, you will probably be spending over $50. Scroll down and browse, I am sure you will find the perfect buds for you!

Does Loud Music Cause Permanent Hearing Loss ?

The Answer is YES

If you listen to loud music repeatedly for months or years it definitely will be a detriment to how well you hear for the rest of your life.

Loud music can damage the sensitive structures of the inner ear. The more you listen to music over 85 decibels, the damage you are doing to your hearing, and the damage is permanent. 85 decibels is about as loud as a lawnmower or leaf blower.

There is no restoring hearing that is lost, it is gone forever, so please remember that, when you crank up your tunes.

Earbuds with Hearing Protection - You Should Still Listen at a Moderate Level

These earbuds are also earplugs! If you have a high noise level job, such as manufacturing or race car driver, or even if you just use a lawnmower or chainsaw often, these buds are for you. They block out the outside, possibly hearing damaging noise, while allowing you to listen to your favorite recordings at a moderate level. Any of the below models will offer you needed ear protection.

The Proper Way to Clean Ear Buds

Should be Done at Least Once or Twice a Week

Ear buds can be a real breeding ground for bacteria, so it is wise to clean them often. I clean mine at least once a week.(I never share with others) If you do share, I would clean them every time they are in another persons ear. I have tried several ways of cleaning my buds, but I think this method is the best.

1. Dip a q-tip in rubbing alcohol and blot the tip on a tissue to get rid of excess liquid.

2. Gently scrub the entire area that is inserted into your ear canal. If that part is removable, it is best to soak it in alcohol for a couple minutes and let air dry.

3. Flip the q-tip around to the clean side and dip it in alcohol again and blot. Gently rub over the part you just cleaned and go on to the rest of the ear bud, cleaning every surface. Let air dry.

Be careful not to let any alcohol drip into the speaker slits or it could damage them.

Is It Unsanitary to Share Ear Buds with Others?

The Answer is YES

A study done by the Online Journal of Health and Allied Sciences found that people who frequently shared their ear buds with others usually had over 80% more bacteria in their ears then people who did not, or did not very often.

A research project done at Manipal University in India proved that the bacteria on an ear bud can transfer from one ear to another, if you share them without cleaning.

So the recommendation is to keep your ear buds to yourself, or thoroughly clean and disinfect them after letting someone else use them.

I wear earbuds. I have had several different kinds. I thought I would like the noise-cancelling kind, but now I am not so sure. They aren't perfect, but they did work great. I like them because they don't make my ears so hot!
