8 Top Corporations That Are Changing The World

Updated on January 10, 2021

Permit me to call them corporations. These corporations are actually showing the destination of the emerging world in the nearest future right before our very eyes. The most significant thing about these corporations is that almost all of them have got (hot) products that I think it will be safe to say that we, the free citizens of earth, are gradually becoming unable to do without as the days go on.

These corporations are responsible, in a way, for our general well being and feel good feelings. They lead the way in world technological advancement, pointing and directing the whole show while defining the way forward at the same time. We heavily feed and leech off on their dreams and deep foresight. These corporations excel because they have been able to understand and intercept our human emotions but they did not stop there. They are also undergoing regular and constant evolvement so as to continue to provide for most of our unlimited wants, yearning, aspirations, shortcomings and shortfalls as human beings.

Sadly though, some of these corporations can easily become an organ for mass mind control tool as more and more people continue to accept them as the normal way of life.

On a closer observation, one could also point out many other ‘corporations’ that are amongst the leading world changers but according to my very own humble opinion, these are the top eight.

Let’s meet them…

Google

Yes the big G, that is Google! What’s the meaning of life again on earth without Google? The smart people at the big G are positioning themselves to cover every aspect of our online searching needs and experience as they continue to evolve and modify their complex search engine algorithms to almost predict exactly the various types of searches that different people all over the world do online and as such, provide them with the very best content that they seek. That is the major work of the big G.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Because the sharp brains at google know that in the war of online searches, content is the king, they have made it possible for people to provide useful content and then get paid for doing such through their Google AdSense program. By so doing, it becomes even easier to bring their customers which are the Google AdWords advertisers and those interested in whatever these advertisers are offering together. Something tells me that a time may come when every citizen of the free world will depend of google for their daily ‘bread’ in one way or the other.

Of course, Google cannot do it alone. They have their major competitors and top on that list is the free email service provider Yahoo! These competitors are equally busy in trying to figure out a very smart way of knocking the big G of the top notch and I strongly believe their efforts in this regard also count a lot in keeping the big G on their toes while providing us all which the information we seek and love too.

We have to thank all of them for this.

Facebook

Should I call it the big F? Like the biblical oak tree that starts from a very small seed, like Facebook. What started as a hobby by one computer geek (most likely, I guess) in his hostel room blossomed into the number one social network in the world to the extent that nowadays it is either you are on Facebook or you are in the Middle Ages especially amongst the young.

The Facebook!

Today, growing number of businesses are modeled with facebook adaptability in mind. Facebook as a phenomenon has also changed the way news is being reported. The recent uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia which succeeded in removing the erstwhile long time serving leaders of those two North African countries is also believed to have succeeded as a result of the input from many facebook users.

Like in the case of Google and Yahoo!, Facebook has also got its partners/competitors which is why we cannot limit the contributions of the numerous social networking sites as regards the changing the world march to Facebook alone without mentioning Twitter which is equally another powerful social networking site that is already making a very strong statement on its own and creating such a strong impact/changes in our lives.

FIFA

One of the most likely outsiders that could take on the Catholic Church as the leading organization with the most number of members should the need arise is…FIFA and that is because of the popularity of the game of football, obviously! The world is hooked onto this game in a similar fashion of the addicts.

The followership of the beautiful game continues to grow everyday and I sometimes believe that best way of instantly connecting with any group you are not so familiar with is to open up a discussion about the latest football match. The English Premier League or the European Champions League is a very sure bet that will serve this purpose for you. But you must be careful in openly voicing out your opinion which may reveal your bias/favoritism towards a particular team because you might be walking into live trouble! I know what I am saying because it has happened to me…

The Beautiful Game!
The Beautiful Game!

So with all that passion and fuss following this 90-minute beautiful game, what do you think is the lot of the corporation seating on top of the whole thing? I mean FIFA…?

Of course FIFA is already in the position of power. A single FIFA ruling can ruin the lives of a great multitude of people as it was in the case of Nigeria in 1995 when FIFA cancelled the World Youth Soccer Championship that was supposed to be held in the country allegedly because of the outbreak of meningitis and also the case of South Africa in 2006 when the hosting right of that Year’s world cup was awarded to Germany under some controversial circumstances.

FIFA is the boss! FIFA can use football to promote the good for all mankind like the case of fighting racism and poverty and no other corporation can do it better than them because of the ever growing large number of followers of the game of soccer!

Microsoft

Microsoft apart from being one of, if not the richest software corporations in the world is also amongst the leading corporation defining how many people all over the globe have come to see and use the computer. The term Windows has become synonymous with ease in using the computers. And with each new Windows upgrade, people are being “forced” to adapt to the latest and easiest method of using the PC but that's not a problem.

Windows 10 is here!
Windows 10 is here!

Ride on, Microsoft! They say I should tell you that the good news is that we love the Windows 7 landmark and we are desperately waiting for your next Windows Upgrade!

UPDATE: Who's still talking about Windows 7? Wake up, Windows 10 is here!!! So move over Windows 8!!!

Nokia

I have heard many people say that Nokia phones are the easiest to use. This ease of use is equally matched with a perfect blend of style and sophistication to meet the various needs of many mobile phone users worldwide. This could be the real reasons why Nokia is a generally accepted mobile phones of choice hence its massive popularity.

There was this program I was listening to on the BBC and the debate was on “which is the world’s most popular sound” and the choice was between the sound made by PCs running Windows XP on complete booting and that very welcome sound you hear whenever you switch on your Nokia Phone.

But we cannot single-handedly give it to Nokia. There are many Nokia competitors out there such as BlackBerry, Androids and many other Smartphone makers who are equally fighting hard to attract and bring in as many customers as possible as well as providing us with that sleek sophistication we lust for in mobile phone technology.

All together these mobile phone producers are changing how we see and use communication gadgets all over the world!

UPDATE: Nokia seems to have lost it! Android has taken over now!!! Those for Android say aye! Those for Nokia say nay! Well, people, the Droids have it!!!

I have a dream. One day your TV will run on Android! Stop dreaming, it's already happening!

Mass media and entertainment industry

The mass media is heavily responsible for shaping how we see the world today. Mass media includes televisions, radio, newspapers, magazines, movies and the internet. The mass media generally operates by penetrating deep into our consciousness because according to the popular saying, whatever the eyes sees (TV, movies and print media) and the ears hear (radios and TV), the mind (easily) believes.

Hollywood which represents the almighty American film industry is also part of the entertainment showbiz of the mass media responsible for shaping how we reason, react as well as define how we see events unfold in the changing world of nowadays due the types of movies they constantly beam to the citizen of the free world. So also is the music industry.

The big boss is the internet. This technology has revolutionized and changed and is still changing virtually the whole aspect of our lives today. There is no mincing word or joke in saying internet has come to stay. In fact, the UN has already recognized internet access as one of the fundamental basic human rights!

There is no need again to add that a time will come in the changing world as it to come when if the mass media says something is either good or bad, we will have no other choice than to tag along since it is also seriously affecting our social behaviors.

China

From nowhere, like a thunderbolt this phenomenon hit us. China is it! And all of a sudden we shockingly discover that all our goods are now made in China! Look at the scenario now, China has the biggest supply of cheap labor more than any other country in the world as a result of her population so there is no competition in that regard.

Maid-in-China, right?
Maid-in-China, right?

China is also making use of their indigenous technology so there is no fear of lack of human resources or unhealthy over dependence/reliance on foreign human power.

Bottom line: it is easier for China to continue to produce various consumer goods and services on a very massive scale at a very cheap rate more than any other country in the world and that means China will just fix the price and we will have no other option other than to just buy. Thus the rise and rise in Made in China goods.

And finally the last but not the least…

You

Of course, not forgetting you! There is no way we can count these corporations and people who are deeply involved with the serious task of changing the world (either for good or for bad) and you will not be counted. Who do you think all these corporations mentioned above have in mind when they try to invent, produce, control or even market any of their products? In fact, no matter the manner or way in which you are contributing to the change the world project, either for good or for bad, the truth is that without you, there’s no them! Simple.

You are so important and the earlier you realize that the better for all of us. One last thing, sorry I called you a corporation…but come to think of it, are you not?
