Can be spam. You need to be very careful using SEO software, because there are plenty of malware our there in the name of SEO and internet marketing.

Use software only from trusted sources, do a research before you install software. Sites like softpedia.com will tell you weather the software contain malware/spyware or not.

Using web based tools is the safest bet.

Most of the Software for SEO in the market are spammy, especially with all the changes google has been doing to its ranking algorithm. First of all, you need to have an SEO plan in place for linkbuilding. Once you are clear about what you want to do, then you can look for an appropriate software or get a custom software created.

I agree with register and wba, SEO software tends to be very spammy.  Try an offshore consultant if you are looking for a reasonably priced solution without engaging in spam.
