Can a free wordpress blog be converted to wordpress.org (self-hosted) blog easily?
I am considering switching to the self hosted blog but I was concerned about losing data & formatting. Is switching over easy to do? I have wordpress now.
It is a little bit time consuming but not that difficult. I don't think you will lose any formatting if you keep the same templates. One of the Wordpress for Dummies books has an entire chapter that basically walks you through it. Or you could try the Codex.
Here is a video tutorial from Mashable that walks you through it:

I took a look at your blog, lots of content. But you may find this helpful, but I can tell you that you will enjoy the freedom of a hosted blog. the things you can do are pretty cool. So don't limit yourself on what else you might be able to create since your blog right now looks pretty good. You more than likely will not be able to carry your followers over. I would suggest keeping the blog.com alive to send everyone to your new blog. You can also use rss to connect the two. But here is the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
