How to Root Samsung Galaxy Y | A Step by Step Guide

Updated on October 30, 2014

If you follow this method to root Samsung Galaxy Y, then there is no reason for your failure. Just follow this step-by-step guide and see the magic.

Samsung Galaxy Y has created buzz in the Indian cell phone market due to its value of price. The price of this device is below Rs. 6000, which is very low for a decent Smartphone. There are some Android phones made by India brands like Micromax or Karbonn at that range, but everybody do not like them. You cannot get a good multinational branded Android phone at such a low price as Samsung Galaxy Y. This is the main reason of its huge popularity.

But Why Should you Root Samsung Galaxy Y?

Samsung is a big brand who sells phone at such a price which is more than twice or thrice of its manufacturing cost. So, as the price of SGY is under Rs. 6000, the company has not spent more than 2000 to build it. So, the hardware of this phone is not that capable for Android operations. It sports an 830MHz ARM V6 processor and 290 MB RAM, which is not enough for playing good graphical games. But there is a method to over clock the processor to 1 GHz! For that, you need to root the mobile. You can also upgrade your phone from outdated Gingerbread to ICS. You can even create virtual RAM space on an SD card to increase its performance. So, you can see rooting the phone may open endless possibilities for your handset. That is why you need to root.

2) Did you have charged your phone to at least 60%? You need to do it for being on the safe side. If it switches itself off during the root process; your phone could be bricked.

it aborted after 5 second. why?

    • profile image

      Attila 3 years ago

Actually the update process was quite fast, a few seconds.

      I got the following messages:

      "Installing su and Superuser.apk...

      Installing OK...

      by yodeput...

      Install from sdcard coplete."

Comparing with some other rooting guides, this one has the following extra steps:

      9) Then select “Wipe Data/Factory Reset”.

      10) Now enable “Wipe Cache Partition”.

For now, I skipped these steps, and just rebooted, and the phone seems to work OK, and the "Superuser" application is also installed. I wonder what extra benefit the above wiping steps provide. Could you please tell me?

Do you know how to play HD games like N.O.V.A. or Brothers in Arms HD on Samsung Galaxy Y? You need an app for that. Yes, there is an app (download it from here http://www.mediafire.com/download/7jth50etjjectp0/... ) which will allow you to play high quality HD games on low end Android phones like Samsung Galaxy Y!

i have samsung GT-S5360,android 2.3.6. When i “ON” bluetooth and click on"make device discoverable" it shows countdown from 119 second. There is no any OPTION to increase this DISCOVERABLE TIME as in other ANDROID MOBILES(HAVE OPTION FOR BLUETOOTH DISCOVERABLE 1 HOUR,5 HOUR ,NEVER….). “DO ALL MOBILES OF THIS MODEL HAVE SAME OPTION OR PROBLEM ?”

Please reply me ,HAVE YOU “ROOTED” THIS TYPE OF MOBILE HAVING ( SAME MODEL,VERSION AND “ NO OPTION FOR BLUETOOTH TO CHANGE ITS DISCOVERABLE TIME)? CAN THIS TYPE OF MOBILE BE “ROOTED SUCCESSFULLY”?

PLEASE INBOX ME IN FACEBOOK “ https://www.facebook.com/Bimalsajan “ AND IF POSSIBLE PLZ GIVE ME YOUR CONTACT NUMBER JUST TO CONFORM THIS DOUGHT AND BELIEVE ME I WILL NOT DISTURB YOU.

Hey guys, for those having the "Status 7 - Instalation aborted" error, it might be solved the same way it was for me:

This topic gave me a hint: http://androidforums.com/galaxy-y-all-things-root/...

Inside the update.zip package, there is this file: "META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script". Inside, your model should have 2 entries (one for ro.build.device and one for ro.build.product).

Check which model you are using going to your phone's Settings, then About phone, then check what's written under "Model number".

If your model isn't in the updater-script file, just add it, save, place in your device and try again.

PS.: It once failed for me and I guess it was a permission flaw. Just open the file from the Package Manager, edit and save. Creating a new zip didn't work for me.

hello, I did this and it seems to be rooted but when I installed RootChecker and other apps that requires rooted mobile- can't do anything because my GT-s5360 isn't rooted. Superuser app is instaled and it gives me notification: outdated binary. I don't know what that is and I can't remove Superuser.

      please help me. Thanx
