The General-purpose Portable Power Station

Portable power stations are available in various configurations, with models offering a 1000Wh capacity being among the most popular. These units are lightweight enough for convenient movement between locations, yet powerful enough to operate high-consumption appliances such as microwaves or air fryers. Additionally, they are valuable assets for outdoor activities, such as camping, or for powering tools in a garage setting.

In this review, I will be evaluating the Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2.

Description

This gray-colored boxlike device weighs 24.9 pounds and is 15.5 inches wide, 8.2 inches deep, and 9.6 inches high.

The SOLIX C1000 Gen 2’s battery capacity is 1024Wh and boasts a maximum output of 2000 watts.

An interior fan operates during heavy loads, forcing air through the portable power station’s side-mounted vents.

This device can be charged via AC, an optional solar panel, or, using the supplied cable, an automobile’s cigarette lighter-type port.

Outputs include five AC outlets, two 140W USB-C ports, a third USB-C port and a USB-A output that can supply up to 20 watts, and a 12V⎓ 10A, 120W car-style port.

Inputs

The SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 accepts AC and DC inputs. Although it is recommended to use the standard 1200W AC charging method, UltraFast mode will input up to 1600 watts, charging the power station in as little as 49 minutes.

Solar panels with a maximum output of 600 watts can be used to charge this device. It may also be connected to the included car charging cable and charged using an automobile’s cigarette-style 12VDC output.

AC Outlets

The SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 is fitted with five AC outlets. They can supply a total of 2000 watts and handle a surge of up to 3000 watts.

USB Outputs

A pair of USB-C outputs, each of which can output 140W, may be used to fast charge electronic devices.

This portable power station is also fitted with a USB-C/USB-A output set, which can supply a total of 20 watts. They are used to charge or operate compatible devices.

The Cigarette Lighter Output

This port can be used to run the pumps, coolers, and other 12VDC equipment that an automobile’s cigarette lighter-style port would typically power.

Battery Capacity and Wattage

This device is equipped with Lithium-Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries capable of supplying up to 1024Wh of power. The main advantage of these LiFeP04 batteries is their ability to be cycled up to 4000 times before their capacity drops below 80 percent of their original rating.

The length of time power is supplied depends on the number of watts drawn by the connected devices. This portable power station can power a 10W router for up to 200 hours, ensuring your phone and laptop can connect to the internet. However, if you were to plug in a 1700W air frier, it would operate for only 70 minutes.

The Television Test

As the Blue Jays are likely to make the playoffs this season, I plan to watch each and every game.

I connected the portable power station to my big-screen television, turned it on, and pushed the AC button.

As the 65-inch big-screen booted, it drew as much as 170 watts. Then the load dropped dramatically, hovering between 90 and 130 watts. During the next three hours, I watched as the Orioles’ lead held until the ninth inning. Then, in dramatic fashion, the Blue Jays won!

As the event finished, I noted that the battery capacity of the power station had dropped to 57 percent.

Preparing Supper

Last month, while evaluating the Anker SOLIX F3000, I prepared a complete meal using a microwave and an air fryer simultaneously. Upon completion, the battery reserve remained sufficient to repeat this process two to three more times.

Although the more affordable SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 has lower overall capabilities, it features a battery capacity and output that are adequate for essential cooking tasks. To test its performance, I connected my DREO air fryer to the SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 and began by preparing four chicken thighs, setting the air fryer’s timer for 30 minutes.

Once the chicken was cooked thoroughly, I proceeded to connect a microwave to the power station and used it to steam a container of cauliflower. After completing these tasks, the SOLIX C1000 Gen 2’s remaining battery reserve was measured at 35 percent.

Overall Impression

The SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 boasts a battery capacity of 1024Wh and will handle loads of up to 2000 watts. It can power a home office or a large television for several hours and is powerful enough to use for cooking a meal.

This device can be recharged in as little as 49 minutes in UltraFast mode when connected to an AC outlet. It is compatible with many solar panels and may be charged via a cable attached to an automobile.

Unlike its big brother, the SOLIX F3000, this device is small and light enough to be easily carried from room to room. At my age, you appreciate that.

A large, easily readable display keeps track of charge level, input, and output power. It also indicates either the operating time or the time required for it to charge fully. The Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 Portable Power Station is strongly recommended.
