Closed our eBay store and moved to Bonanzle/Bonanza! UPDATED!

Updated on June 17, 2013

Don't waste your time with Bonanza aka Bonanzle they are a big joke!

I joined ebay back in July 2002 as a hobby seller. It didn't take long before it became a full time business. I was doing very well and I enjoyed ebay so much back in the day. I started buying and selling sports cards and memorabilia. This was something I enjoyed very much. I was working full time and selling full time on ebay after a short while. Eventually my business evolved from sports card and memorabilia to selling Home & Garden d├ęcor. It didn't take long before I became a Power Seller and kept my status until I left in December 2008.

Then all the changes started to go into effect one after the other. I left eBay mostly for the same reasons as many others who have left. I got tired of the DSR crap and the search manipulation they were doing. Ebay was no longer enjoyable, it now had become very stressful.

I heard about this site Bonanzle aka Bonanza not sure where, could have been on the Power Sellers Unite site. Anyway this was a new site still in beta. I joined in September 2008. Bonanzle had a totally different atmosphere, it's a very friendly and relaxing environment unlike eBay. At Bonanzle it's FREE to list and a small final value fee if your item sells. Bonanzle is a store format no auctions here. Bonanzle grew fast everyday more than any other site competing with eBay. Many of us who joined the site saw a lot of potential and we went out and spread the word. It is because of all the people who worked so hard that this site grew so fast.

UPDATE:

It is almost 3 years later and all I can say is.....

BONANZA SUCKS!!!!!!!!

In the three years that have passed I am sorry to say I am not happy with the direction Bonanza has taken!

First off they made it very clear that they will not be advertising their site. They would prefer all of us who have worked so hard already to continue spreading the word. Are they serious? Enough is enough already! It is 3 years that has passed it is time for Bonanza to step up to the plate and advertise their site!

Things have changed so much that the site is nothing like it was when it first started. Many people enjoyed the simplicity of the site. There were just the basics and that was all many of us ever needed. It was very friendly and everyone in the forums was always trying to help others. It was such a wonderful atmosphere and I was very fortunate to have met so many wonderful people.

Bonanza is constantly making changes on it's site and there are way too many glitches. Checkout has always been an issue and they don't seem to care enough about it to fix the problem with it. Oh but they keep adding new games and toys to distract you of all the none working features of the site. They have added tagging, tokens, badges and god only knows what other stupid stuff.

If you are a serious seller than Bonanza is not for you. If you enjoy wasting your time in the forums and playing all the games they have on there than you will love it. The only sales on this site would be if you joined some of the many games so everyone can buy from each other. The only winner there is Bonanza because they make their fees.

I closed all of my accounts on Bonanza and now only focus on my website. I don't know how a wonderful site could have taken a wrong turn and just turn to shit?

I used to be a big powerseller on eBay too, but left when competition came in with inferior products and slashed prices. It was fun while it lasted. I am glad I missed out on Bonanza.

I've never heard of Bonanza, but judging from what you say it looks like they may need to re-think their strategies. Thanks for sharing the information,.

It seems to be an ongoing challenge to find the right, long-term selling forum. eBay has certainly changed enormously in the seven years that I have been moving on pre-loved items.

@LiteraryMind: We tried Ruby Plaza but that didn't work out and they are now closing that sister site to RubyLane. You've convinced me to give RubyLane another look. Thanks.

I agree with you 100% about Bonanza. Still on eBay but cutting back and concentrating on my own site. Thanks for the opportunity to add Restoration Fabrics and Trims to your plexo. Greatly appreciated.

I didn't hear of Bananza before; probably just American based? My husband does good trade on eBay but I completely understand the frustration with it. After all every big business always does whatever it can to become bigger and that usually means stepping on the toes of the little guys like me and you! That's the corporate world we live in, it has no feelings. I wish you best of luck with your website!!!

I have been on Bonanza for a couple of years and ony made one small sale, and that was to a friend. I can't get on with the games you describe - obviously designed to keep people on site and forget its foibles. I don't know of anyway of checking wether anybody elses stuff is selling. I have given up!

I've been looking for some alternatives to eBay. eBid.net is my current favorite. It doesn't have the wide audience or selection that eBay has but it does good if you're just looking for someplace new to buy or sell.

Sorry to say I hadn't heard of Bonanza, which of course, is a lot of the complaint, right?

We've been transitioning from eBay and Bonanza to our own websites. Wish there was a viable alternative to eBay but they make it very difficult these days and you are right about Bonanza - they have also lost it.

Oh wow! Don't think I ever really thought of Bonanza; just didn't have the time. Yes, I got to powerseller status back around 2003 or 2004 ... but quit because of all the fees. Doing a business analysis, it was tough to continue doing business when the ROI wasn't there. I still come to eBay for buying, but not as much as before. Wishing you the best with your sales.

I no longer sell on eBay any more either. I have been thinking about an Etsy store and then I found out about Bonazle. After reading this I just I should open the Etsy store. Since you quit Bonanzle too, where have you gone that you think is a good place to sell vintage items?

    • ebaybee profile image

      ebaybee 7 years ago

As a former Ebay store owner, as the economy spiraled downward, it was no longer worth it to keep paying fees for items that weren't selling. Bonanzle was a welcome change for me because I could list many items for free and never worry about paying fees unless I sold something. I believe as the economy improves, so will Bonanzle sales. Don't forget it took a few years for Ebay to become as popular as it is today. Advertising costs money which is why Ebay's fees have gotten so high. I'm willing to stick it out and keep promoting my booth through social networking and other free venues in order to avoid paying those costly fees.
