94523 :: Pleasant Hill, California

Updated on October 4, 2013

Pleasant Hill, California :: My Hometown

Located in the San Francisco Bay Area in Contra Costa County, Pleasant Hill is literally right in the middle of everything the Bay Area has to offer, from sports venues to world-class arts and entertainment. Twenty minutes from the beach, two hours from snow, and public transportation connecting it all together. It's a great place to live.

When I was growing up in Pleasant Hill, California a few decades ago, the population was about 15,000. Today it's over double that -- still small enough to keep its small town appeal, but an ever-growing dynamic community that has everything that modern living requires. Pleasant Hill has the best of both worlds.

Shopping in Pleasant Hill, CA 94523

Pleasant Hill recently redeveloped our downtown area into a charming stolling mall with unique shops, restaurants and a theater. Just down the street is a large indoor mall, and many little neighborhood communities boast their own gathering places with delis, sidewalk cafes and local business.

Upscale shopping is close by at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek.

What More Could a Person Ask For

Beautiful parks, hiking and biking trails and open areas, public transportation, access to ocean and snow literally in the same day. Excellent schools and sports programs, museums, theaters, art centers and sports teams all within easy access.

I've always felt like I could be a country mouse or a city mouse as the mood strikes.

The Perfect Location

Pleasant Hill is in the center of Contra Costa County. Located on the 680 corridor with access within minutes to the freeway and BART, yet boasting of peaceful old and new neighborhoods nestled beneath tall oak trees and mature growth. It was the perfect place to grow up, and the perfect place to raise families today.

We're So Spoiled By the Weather in Pleasant Hill - Mild the Whole Year Round

We're used to throwing footballs, not snowballs, on Christmas. We do get beautiful fall color in a wide variety of trees, but rarely does it snow. Every once in a great while swimming pools actually freeze solid, and usually a few times each season Mt. Diablo gets picturesquely dusted with snow.

      Very pretty! I grew up not too far away in Livermore. The Bay Area is a great place to live.

      I feel like a total Schmuck for not knowing anything about Pleasant Hill. I don't even remember ever having heard of it. This is sad considering that I am a fellow Californian, albeit, one of those dreaded Southern Californians. I actually have family in Frisco, Jose, and East Palo Alto. I have friends in Richmond, Oakland, Fremont, and Vallejo. Why do I not know Pleasant Hill??!!! Go figure. Wonderful lens on your hometown.

      This is beautiful. I have been to the mall that is the border between Concord and Pleasant Hill. I added this to two groups. Thanks for emailing me, Gary

      I grew up not far away in Pleasanton and then lived over the hills in Pittsburg before escaping the Bay Area completely. Thanks for the memories!

      I've been there! Great lens... it really shows off the beauty in this town. I used to take my children to the big playground downtown when we lived in East County.
