Hull City A Walk Around The Local Park
Park Sign - What's In The Park?
Visiting The Local West Park In Hull
Every so often I take a trip out to the local park, sometimes with my family or just on my own. On this occasion it's just me as I just needed to get out of the house and dust off the dust on my walking boots and just have a wander.
The local park is called West Park and it is situated in the West part of Hull City, which is in East Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. The park itself has undergone many changes since I was a child, but essentially it remains the same, although just a bit smaller than I remember.
As a child I learnt to ride my bike there, saw my dad kick a football as high as the tallest trees and where I dropped my ice cream and a seagull suddenly came in and took the ice cream cone dripping the ice cream along the path.
West park, which is alongside Walton Street, which is home to the local market in the car park with it's twice weekly market stalls and car boot sales on the Sunday. Walton Street Car Park also every October sees the great travelling fair which we traditionally call Hull Fair and this lasts a full week and there are rides and many stalls selling candy floss, coconuts and there is that highly desirable childrens stall where you can hook a duck!
Quite recently on the other side of West Park is the KC Stadium which cost a few million pounds to build and is the home of football games and rugby and providing sports activities to youngsters.

In The Summer Time In West Park
When it comes to the summer, there are events held at the park such as music and local radio festivals that seem to draw people to them as it is quite boring in Hull and also when better weather arrives, there is an ice cream van which sells ice creams and ice lollies that my kids love so much.
In the summer time the park seems to come alive with all types of people even the local tramps come out with their sweaty vests unfortunately!
However, equally Spring time is often quite good too as the park has that feel about it, that the tree leaves are going to shoot up and the grass gets cut more frequently making the smell just part of the parks ambience.

Walking Around The Park
When taking a walk around the park I can't help but feel relaxed and deep in thought about the things that I need to do, the park has such a calm and soothing atmosphere as the Squirrels and the birds go about their daily routines that largely get ignored.
I like to look at the trees and just spot things I may not have noticed before, maybe the bark on the trees, taking new photos and snap shots of these wonderful and incredible things that are just everyday passive things.
Although one thing that still bugs me to this day, is the bird avairy as it serves no real purpose and I feel it is outdated in terms of todays issues with keeping birds in cages and other animals, as a kid I thought it was the most fascinating thing seeing many types of birds in the cages such as a peacock and some really colourful budgies, but now this just seems to have lost it's meaning and is just imposing a prison sentence to some unsuspecting birdies.
