A Weekend In San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato
About San Miguel de Allende
San Miguel de Allende is a home to many Americas, European, and Canadian individuals with a slower pace in lifestyle. The town projects a feeling of adventure but yet relaxation. San Miguel de Allende is rich in experiences for those visiting.
Breakfast at San Agustín
Begin your morning with a delicious experience at Café San Agustín on Calle San Francisco. The café is owned by Argentine actress Margarita Gralia and it a very well know place. The place is known for their churros and chocolates, but you may enjoy various dishes and drinks at any time of the day. I must say you should try a "Chocolate a la Mexicana with Churros". Their prices vary according to their dishes, but for my suggested choice it was 56 pesos. You can't beat that for such a delicious experience!
Walk Through the Jardín of San Miguel
Walking through the Jardin you will be in the heart of the city. The Jardin is very popular for the Parroquia church, La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, and the Centro Histórico. While walking and shopping in the Jardin you will encounter many celebrations from baptisms to weddings. I strongly encourage you all to observe the wedding traditions that are celebrated and enrich San Miguel's cultural environment. The newly-weds and their guests participate in an allejonada, a wedding parade, which is led by a mariachi band, giant puppet figures, and a brightly-dressed donkey. The donkey carries the tequila for all of the guest to participate in the celebration.
For Lunch Enjoy Tasty Treats In the Jardin
While in the Jardin we decided to experience more of the culture and taste various food vendors (stands). All the vendors had various food items like, corn in a cup, ice cream, tostadas, dorilocos, fresas con crema, and many more items to choose from. During this time were were able to enjoy different types of music from local artists and observe a few wedding celebrations.
Exploring El Mercado and Local Crafts
Walk the streets of San Miguel and enjoy the crafts and art of the locals. Explore the Mercado and the local craft and art shops. You will find pottery, clothing, blankets, and home decor.
