Very Close to a 5 Star Review

4 stars for Allegro at Cozumel Resort

Extravagant Experience for the Whole Family!

As a family, we have decided to travel every year somewhere new for Christmas. We are a family of 7. My husband and I have 4 daughters and 1 son, ranging in ages 4-22 at the time. My Mother in Law and oldest daughters fiancé travels with us too. My review will cover all of our experiences from a mom and family perspective.

It’s Check in time!

Arrival to Allegro was a fairly easy transition. Located approximately 45 minutes from the Cozumel Airport, it was quite neat being able to drive through all of the small towns along the way. Upon arrival, not the most extravagant entrance I have seen, but lovely and simple. Our check-in was fairly quick, and the staff quite pleasant. We arrived slightly early and had to wait 20 minutes for our rooms, but when arriving at a new place the excitement makes that seem like nothing. So exciting!

Accommodations

Once check-in was completed we were given directions to our Villa’s. Being 9 of us in total we had 3. All of our Villas were a decent size and the same. Simple layout and very clean. My mother-in-law had 2 children with her and we had 2 with us, so they made sure we were in connecting Villa’s which was perfect. Each of our Villas had a small balcony, complete with a table, chairs and the much-loved hammock! One thing I must say is I loved the showers! Rainfall showerheads, with great water pressure! Often when I travel, my children and I have very thick hair and water pressure is a problem! Not here, in fact, I loved their shower heads so much my husband bought me one when I got home! We had no trouble with any bugs or surprises in the room. Maid services were great, they even left us fresh fruit, and water, and little surprises on the bed. All and all our accommodations were excellent.

The Resort Grounds

One of my favourite things about this resort as a family vacation we’re the grounds and the layout of the resort! This was not a large resort by any means, I would suggest small to midsized, however, it lacked nothing! With a wonderful Pirate Ship Water Park, multiple beautiful clean pools, eateries, bars, kids club, a small playground, beautiful large beach, a grass area for kids to play, the size of this resort and layout was perfect. Many Villas lined the Pirate Water Park, allowing your eyes and ears on your children playing from the comforts of your villa. The resort was small enough that allowing your older children to roam a little more freely was not as nerve-wracking as with a large resort. The main area down at the beach also had a pool, bar, grass area, eating area, hot tub, and the children’s activities were also there. As a parent this allowed you to have multiple children doing multiple different activities while allowing you to keep an eye on all of them, hear them and still relax. ( I must mention as well their kid's club staff is excellent, constantly involved, organizing and playing with the children) The grounds were clean and safe.

Dining/Food

This was the one area as a family we agreed lacked performance or quality at this resort. I will list the pros and cons and you can decide for yourself. This is the only reason we give the 4-star review.

Pros:

  • Friendly Service
  • Unlimited Ice Cream
  • Food Properly Cooked
  • Sanitary
  • Kids Entertainment during meals (clowns)
  • Bacon & Eggs (while supplies last)
  • Some Kid-friendly options
  • Lunch at the Pool eaterie was the best!

Cons:

  • 10-30 Minute wait for dinner in the main dining area
  • Never ate in restaurants overbooked
  • Limited Breakfast options that were Kid-friendly
  • Not a lot of selections
  • Difficult to accommodate seating for large groups
  • Understaffed for dinner rushes in the main dining area

Dining and food were ok, we always tend to overeat while on holidays. I will say the drinks were good!

Activities & Entertainment

This particular resorts children’s program was great, the staff that were running the evening shows and daytime activities were phenomenal!

Evening Entertainment was all about the kids, from dances and shows, the children all got to be involved! Daytime activities included cooking right on the beach, pool activities and beach games. The children loved it! (so did the parents)

Pool time fun, snorkelling, kayaking, swimming, sunbathing, hot tubbing, outdoor chess and croquet, and just some r&r, we were never bored unless we wanted to be!

Our family went on an excursion snorkelling the local reefs, it was truly unforgettable and affordable! We also took a cab into San Miguel for some shopping and a nice walk. Truly an amazing experience had by all and we always felt safe!
