An Exclusive Lunch at The Breakers Hotel

Updated on August 21, 2012

An Elegant Lunch Option

The Breakers
The Breakers

Most people would opt for lunch at a modest little get away by the beach any day of the week here in South Florida. The types and varieties of oceanfront restaurants are numerous and all offer a great view of the Atlantic. If you are wanting to dine in elegance, there is no better place than The Breakers located on Palm Beach island.

The hotel was founded by Henry Flagler, the great railroad tycoon, and is still operated by his descendants. It is a world famous hotel and offers visitors the same quality standards established decades earlier. It is located on 140 acres of lush oceanfront property and is a complete resort offering patrons amenities which include a spa, fitness center, 36 hole golf course, lovely outdoor gardens and courtyards. The architecture is Italian-Renaissance and gives one the feeling of being somewhere in Europe as they stroll through the buildings and gardens.

Other Trivia on The Breakers:

Hotel guests have a choice of eating at one of nine restaurants and five bars. Last year, we dined in one of the more private dining rooms which reminded us of a Mediterranean villa with its pastel walls, stately furniture and floral backdrops. The food menu consisted of fresh salads as well as heartier meal options such as pasta and gourmet burgers. We were not disappointed.

The shops located within the hotel cater to guests desiring upscale merchandise, including Ralph Lauren and Lilly Pulitzer. If you are wanting to take a dip, The Breakers has five pools to choose from, but with the ocean at its doorstep people often go for the beach.

Our Luncheon Experience

My husband and I enjoy a date every week. Usually, we take in a calming get away at one of the moderate restaurants on our list, but this week we decided to celebrate my husband's birthday by splurging on one of our "bucket list" dining venues, The Breaker's Hotel Seafood Bar.

It's not every day we get to lunch in such an elaborate setting, so you can imagine the excitement we experienced during the whole time we visited the hotel. As you can see by the video, it does have some beautiful gardens, walkways and views of the Atlantic. The buildings are also quite a site and walking between them is reminiscent of Europe's finest.

We enjoyed strolling the ocean path that paralleled the beach. We watched the waves crash against the boulders and spray the beachcombers looking for seashells and small crabs. The breeze smelled of salt water and the seagulls floated along the air currents looking for small fish in the blue water. Occasionally, one of the birds would swoop down and come up with a small prize in its beak and sail off over the sand to enjoy its catch.

As we entered the restaurant, the ocean themed decor was relaxing and provided us a view of the ocean. The highlights of the decor were the water fountains between the booths and the aquarium bar which contained small tropical fish swimming among coral stones. Of course our meals were absolutely scrumptious! The fresh seafood was beyond description and truly was the best we have ever eaten.

Overall, our lunch was a memorable experience and one that we will not soon forget.
