Areca Lodge Pattaya Review
Nice Big Budget Hotel on Soi Diana
I do not quite often make a trip out to Pattaya but when I do I usually look for a budget hotel in a quiet central location. Because Pattaya has one big red light district spread out with bars and clubs blaring loud music until 2am. So I am afraid of getting stuck in a room at a hotel that is too close to a bar.
The Areca Lodge Pattaya hotel fit the bill for my needs because it's a big affordable hotel that is close to a small section of red light district but you will still get the feeling of seclusion. Though there are quiet a few go go bars and beer bars in the area because the Areca is near Soi LK Metro, a booming hot spot for nightlife adventures in Pattaya.
Because the Areca Lodge and many other hotels in Soi Diana are close to many go go bars and beer bars with prostitutes for hire you will see male guests bringing ladies back to a hotel room.
That's because the Areca has a policy of not charging extra fees for unregistered guests. Believe it or not the hotel is still a family friendly place to stay as I have experience during a short 3 night stay.
The Areca is not a brand new shiny hotel. It was built back in 2002 but through the years the hotel has been upgraded with new additions of annex buildings. Even while I was staying there in mid October 2012 when I made this video review the hotel was remodeling the front entrance.
Here's the website I used to book my stay. I paid about $54USD per night with taxes and breakfast included. I found better rates at Agoda compared to booking directly at Areca's website.

How to Get to Areca Lodge on the Cheap
If you're coming to Pattaya from Bangkok I always use the bus services near atthe Ekkamai Bus Terminal which is near the Ekkamai BTS train station.
As of writing the bus fare cost 124THB and the ride last 2 hours straight to Pattaya Bus Terminal. There's no bathroom in the bus nor are there any rest stops so make sure you take care of business before you board that bus.
Once you've arrived at Pattaya Bus Terminal look for the songthaew pick-up trucks near the entrance of the terminal. Once you get off the bus you should see them to your left.
Songthaews run on a set route and make stops when they pick up passengers or passenger s ring the buzzers located throughout the songthaew.
So from Pattaya Bus Terminal the songthaew driver will automatically go to Beach Road and from there you should look for Mike's Shopping Mall because that's where you get off. The ride on the Songthaew last around 10 minutes if there's no traffic.
Soi Diana where Areca Lodge is located is just past Mike's Shopping Mall and you can walk through the mall just to soak up the air conditioning for a bit. Walking from Mike's Shopping Mall through to Soi Diana and the hotel takes about 5 minutes
One important tip to remember is that the ride from Pattaya Bus Terminal to Mike's Shopping Mall cost 20THB.
Please take a good look at the map below to get a better understanding of the directions.
I stayed in a standard room on the 5th Floor
I was provided a room on the 5th floor near the back end of the hotel. As mentioned earlier, the Areca consists of several buildings. And my room is a standard room which was spacious with several chairs to lounge around.
My room is located in the main building in the Evergreen Wing. And even though the building I was in is older there were signs of an update in the room decor.
There is a big king sized bed that was quite comfortable. The television had a wide variety of channels to view just in case it's raining outside. And the usual amenities such as in room safe and refrigerator are at guests disposal.
Hotel internet access through Wi-Fi is free. Though it seemed to be unstable while using my iPad and ever so often I had to re-enter the username and password which was kind of annoying.
If there was one thing that I have to add it's that the hotel is very guest friendly with helpful staff all around from the hotel reception to the breakfast staff in the morning.
Even though my short was stay I really enjoyed staying there and would not hesitate to stay there again.
