Be Resorts Mactan Getaway

Updated on March 5, 2015

Last November 11, 2011 was my wife's birthday and to celebrate the said special event, we decided to take a time out from our daily life and checked in at one of the latest hotel in Mactan that is making a name for itself.

The day started early as my wife packed the things needed for the trip like clothes, swimwear and etc.. On this occasion we forego packing any food and just decided to buy some groceries at a supermarket and eat an early lunch at any restaurant that we will pass along the way. While my wife was busy packing, I am busy trying to get some work done since I have a home based job with no actual standard working hours. Around 10am we were all packed up and ready to go, me and my wife together with our 3 year old son decided to start the day right by first stopping at the Lilo-an church to light a candle asking God to bless this day and make my wife's birthday a success by keeping us safe from any harm.

All pack and ready to start our day

We reached the Hotel around 1 pm and the moment we entered the place, we were amazed by the site and interior of the place. Everything is so stylish and elegant. It felt like a perfect place to have a wonderful weekend. Sadly, from here everything went downhill as it took us nearly 20 minutes to get our room and I have to pay for an incident deposit of 1,000.00 pesos. I am not sure if this is a widespread practice but this is the first time I have encountered this. When we finally got into our room, everything was back to being perfect, at first glance the room look fabulous and the view was breathtaking but when we finally settled down we started to notice little stuffs like there are no disposable slippers and no dental kit, we quickly call up housekeeping and was told that they only give slippers and dental kit to suite room? WHAT? Again I was very disappointment. While unpacking our stuffs I can’t help but shook my head the study table have a lot of ants crawling around, with disappointment after disappointment we decided to take a deep breath and try to appreciate what this place have to offer

We quickly put on our swimwear and hobbled down the poolside. The hotels have 3 pools to serve its guests, one of the pool cater for kids it is around 2 feet deep. Right beside the kid’s pool cater for grown-ups this pool is around 5 feet deep while the last one is a Jacuzzi pool around 3 to 4 feet deep located near the bar area. Here we had a great time and lots of fun, my son really digs the pool and he even manages to make friends with the other guest kids. I would like to commend the crew here for doing their best to make sure that the facilities are well maintained, they fearlessly implement the hotel rules and regulation regardless if you are local or foreigner. After swimming we took a stroll at the beach we really like the ambience that this place project again everything is very stylish and elegant. We even forgot the disappointment we had early on. Their activity room is simple but it was nice since it have a small area dedicated as a playroom for kids which we really like and appreciate. My wife and I talked that we will just appreciate what is great about this place and to make the most out of this occasion, around 5 pm we decided to go back in our room to take a short nap.

After our nap, we ate our pack food and decided to order some treats and dessert up to our room. Sadly, no menu was found in the room. We went down to the dining area to see what we can have. With a quick glance their menu reveals that they don’t have much to offer in the food department. There is very little variation after scanning over we decided to have a pizza and a cake and requested that they bring it up to our room. Here is another bummer the crew said that they don’t do food service in the room anymore? WHAT? Also they don’t have any pizza at that time hmm more time wasted. So I told them to make my order to be take-out and I would take it myself. Maybe out of shame one of the crew volunteered to take the food up to our room. Thank you J finally someone knows how to handle a guest. On the way up the crew said that a lot of their guests are shock when they found out that they don’t do food room service. I'm glad that I am not alone on this plight. Up in our room we ate the dessert and watch TV. The dessert tasted real good I really wanted to order another one but decided not to go through with the hassle again. By the way the TV display was bad and adjusting the setup did little to improve it, I don’t know if the TV is a LCD or LED I can’t tell. We just decided to sleep, rest and call it the night.

Morning comes and it’s time for breakfast. With the incident last night I was not at all that thrilled and again I was not mistaken. The food selection is poor. I noticed that majority of the guests (Koreans) have brought their own food things like jelly, can goods, pack food and instant noodles I wish I have gotten that memo J. After breakfast we just decided to enjoy the scenery and took a bunch of picture, we also drop by the activity center again and had some fun with our son there. Since they don’t offer late checkout we were already at the front desk before 12 noon. Checking out took us around 10 minutes.

Bottom line the place is great no doubt about it and majority of the crew are polite and pleasant. I would really like to revisit this place again. I do hope that the management makes some changes especially with the service and food to make their guests stay more pleasant. To the management it is written in your website that all rooms have 2 pairs of disposable slippers and toiletry. You should edit your website and say that it is only available for suite room.

Again this is my own personal opinion and experience. This should not be taken as fact and it may not be true for all people who had stayed in this hotel

I would grade this hotel as follows:

Hotel (ambiance, amenities, etc.) = B+
Room (what is inside the room) = B-
Crew (Politeness, Knowledge, etc) = B
Management (Rules, service offered, etc.) = C+
Food (Taste, variety, etc) = B
Value of money (rate of hotel) = B

On our way home we drop by Magellan’s Shrine and Lapu-Lapu Shrine both are well known Cebu Tourist Spot which is located nearby. :D
