Uttarkashi means northern cough which is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Whose location is on the banks of the river Ganges. It is the district headquarters of Uttarkashi state. It is 1158 meters above sea level and is a holy city. There are many ashrams and temples in Uttarkashi. The naming of this place as Kashi (Benares) has influenced what is now one of the most popular major cities in Uttarakhand. It is considered as a major tourist destination in the state. Lots of tourists and visitors come here throughout the year. It is an attractive tourist destination in the Himalayan Range full of natural beauty.

Tourists enjoy its natural beauty. It is located 122 km from Janaki Chatti, 196 km from Ukhimath, 72 km from Barkot, 118 km from Mussoorie, 101 km from Gangotri, 191 km from Haridwar and 163 km from Rudraprayag. Uttarkashi is famous for its scenic beauty and the beauty of the adjoining Ganges basin. Uttarkashi has many interesting places to visit. Lots of tourists come here to visit these places. If you want to trek to different places including Har Ki Dun, Gomukh, Tapoban, Dadhital Lake, Dayara Bugial, you have to take permission (porchi) from here. You have to pay a little money for permission. This DFO Permit office is open for six days. Closed on Sundays. It is open from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.

The best time to go to Uttarkashi

In summer, very nice and pleasant weather is present here. During summer, the upper temperature is around 28 degrees. And the bottom is 13 degrees. The average temperature in winter is 0-12 degrees. It is very cold in winter. It is open all year round. But the fun of walking in hot and cold is different.

Places to visit in Uttarkashi

Dodital Lake

Dodital Lake is an interesting place full of natural beauty which is famous for trekking. The water of the lake is very clear and clear. Lots of tourists come here. It is one of the most visited places in Uttarkashi. Its height from sea level is 3024 meters. This is the first place you can choose when traveling to Uttarkashi. The distance from Uttarkashi to Dodhital Lake is 22 km. If you want to go to Dodhital, first you have to go to Sangamchatti. Then trek 19 km to reach Dodhital Lake. Sangamchatti is considered as the birthplace of Lord Ganesha. There is a village called Banara or Agora for you to spend the night. Nachiketa Lake

One of the most famous institutes in India is the Nehru Mountaineering Institute. It was built in Uttarkashi on November 14, 1985. The institute was named after former Prime Minister Jahar Lal Nehru. The institute is surrounded by dense jungles and rich natural environment covered by hills. Its distance from the main city of Uttarkashi is 2 km.

Kuteti Devi Temple

Kuteti Devi Temple is located on the banks of the Ganges. It is located on the top of Hari mountain. Its distance from the main city of Uttarkashi is 2 km. It was built by Maharaja Kota's daughter and son-in-law. The goddess Kuteti showed them their dreams to establish. Goddess Kuteti is another form of Lord Durga. There is no direct train to Uttarkashi. The nearest railway station is Dehradun or Haridwar. There are some trains from Calcutta to Haridwar or Dehradun. You can rent a car from Haridwar or Dehradun. You can also get a bus from Rishikesh or Dehradun to Uttarkashi.
