Branson home of the Heartland

Updated on February 28, 2011

The curtain comes up morning noon, and night in Branson, Missouri. They have the bright lights and big stars. Branson draws millions of visitors every year. It’s the heartland and it is that hometown feel that make Branson a destination for all. When you think of Branson, wholesome entertainment comes to mind. Branson was a big tourist attraction from way back in the 1890’s when a Canadian named William Lynch turned a spectacular local cavern into an Ozarks tourist attraction. . It is known as “The Marvel Cave” it is the centerpiece of the family owned “Silver Dollar City” theme park. From the start local families hosted the visitors in their stores, hotels and restaurants. The first regular show in town, “The baldknobbers Jamboree Music Show” opened in 1959. Like everything else in Branson, it was a family business in the hollow the maybe family who started it also starred in net still to this day. The Baldknobbers show, (named for a post civil war era vigilante group.) features songs alternate between booze soaked ballads of romance and remorse and straight of Come to Jesus gospel music.

At the Big Cedar Lodge, kids and grownups get into the act while munching down on some home cooked food and cheering on the competitions at the Tall Timber Lumberjack Show.
