Cheap Airline Tickets To El Salvador | Flights To San Salvador

Updated on July 22, 2011

Cheap Airline Tickets To San Salvador, El Salvador

Air travelers searching for cheap flights to El Salvador are in for a pleasant surprise. The hub for TACA airlines is located in San Salvador, El Salvador. TACA Airlines is headquartered in San Salvador. This is their major travel hub. All air flights bound for South America fly into El Salvador first. What this means to you as a traveler is that this city is particularly competitive. The other airlines like Delta, United and American are competitive with their pricing.

Travel Search Engines - Searches for Cheap Flights

Travelocity, and other travel search aggregators often advertise cheap flights to El Salvador from many US Cities. For Spring 2011, I have been seeing more ads for cheap flights to Latin American destinations than usual. If you do a search with one of these search engines, the airport code for San Salvador is SAL.

Travelocity have a useful feature for searching for the cheapest flights. You can select an option to search for dates plus or minus three days from your desired travel date. Travelocity will then search for the best fares three days on either side of your travel date. This makes the searching much faster. One note, this feature isn't available on all destinations. It is for travel within the US, but isn't available on many International destinations. It is available for the airport SAL.

Cheapest US Departure Flights To El Salvador

If you are searching for the best priced air tickets, you will have more success choosing a travel route that TACA is competing. TACA fly out of several US cities. The following list of US cities is where you will likely find the best discount flights to El Salvador.

  • Chicago

  • Dallas
  • Houston
  • Los Angeles

  • New York
  • Orlando
  • San Francisco
  • Washington

Flights From Canada to San Salvador, El Salvador

TACA fly out of one Canadian city – Toronto, Canada. Again, the fact that TACA route all of their Latin American destinations through their hub in El Salvador, finding a departure city where TACA operate will yield you the best air ticket prices due to the competition their hub offers. So if you live in Canada, the cheapest flights are from Toronto to El Salvador.

Interestingly, Vancouver Canada on the West Coast of Canada, the third largest Canadian city with a population of 2.1 million people, does not have good flight service to Central America. For years, I have been expecting new travel routes out of Vancouver for many Latin American destinations, but they just haven't come along. Cheap Flights Vancouver to El Salvador  It seems the airline industry is only serving Vancouver to Mexico as far as Latin American destinations.

I have been hearing rumors of Westjet serving Costa Rica as a destination, for over a year now, but it appears that when they finally do add the destination to their flight route, it will be out of Toronto. I believe that by not servicing Vancouver with direct flights to Central America, the airlines are missing a large market that is hungry for better Central American flight destinations.

Direct Flights From Canada

It is possible to fly direct from Toronto, Canada to El Salvador. The flight is with the TACA partner, LACSA Airlines. It departs YYZ and is direct to SAL. Of course, flight schedules are subject to change, but the flight (Flight #0621) is a great schedule with the departure time from YYZ of 9:45 AM and an arrival time in SAL of 2:00 PM.

Direct Flights to El Salvador

If you choose US airline hubs as your departure point you will have more direct flights to choose from, not to mention a better likelihood of getting a great price too. For example, the hub city for Delta Airlines is Atlanta, Georgia. They are the only airline flying out of Atlanta with direct flights to San Salvador and their pricing is usually the best from Atlanta too. For travel up to April 3, 2011 the round-trip price of a direct flight to SAL from ATL was $502 on Travelocity.

I have found the cheapest place to fly from the US to San Salvador is from Texas. It is easy to get round-trip tickets for $300 and often there will be a sale with a lower price. I don't know how they can fly so cheap. Don't ask when you find one of these discount flights available for your departure date, just book the ticket and thank the cut-throat nature of the business.

If you are flying from Los Angeles, you will have no problem finding direct flights to El Salvador. The flight is easy too, with a flight time from LAX to SAL of exactly 5 hours.

Flights From Europe to El Salvador

Iberia Announce New Route From Madrid to El Salvador

Iberia have been adding new routes to Central American destinations this year. Now with the new route between Madrid and El Salvador, Iberia have made air travel from Europe to El Salvador a whole lot easier. If you are searching for flights from Europe to El Salvador that do not stop in the United States this flight is your answer.

It is not a direct flight from Spain to El Salvador, there is one stop in Guatemala. This is a much more direct flight than was available in the past.

Another new flight was added in October 2010, connecting Madrid and Panama with direct flights. Again it is great for travelers from Europe to Panama without the delays of stopping in the US.

The flight from Spain to El Salvador is the first time an airline has connected these two countries. The airline industry is a cut-throat business, so you can expect to see more competition coming from the other European Airlines. This should open up more European flights to El Salvador. For now, Iberia is leading the pack for European air fares to Central America.

Spirit Air Flights To El Salvador

In June 2011, Spirit Air began flying to El Salvador from the USA. Spirit flights to San Salvador are scheduled three times per week. Spirit is an ultra low cost airline with flights across the USA, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America.

The non stop flights from the USA to SAL are from Spirit's Fort Lauderdale, Florida hub. This is their main hub for international departures.

Airlines add and change flights often. If you are aware of an error or better yet, discover a cheaper flight route than those mentioned here, please leave a note in the comments section. It will make the user experience better for those in the future. Thanks, and happy travels.

      Hey Johnny,

The previous comment from Wazzup El Salvador referred to Spirit's new flights. And it is more appropriate now since they added San Francisco/Oakland to their routes. Cheapest flight would be Spirit to Las Vegas then onwards to Fort Lauderdale and San Salvador. Not direct, but it is usually the best price.

Hey wazzup El Salvador. Thanks for the heads up, I'll update the page with the new flights from Spirit. They have flights right now from Ft Lauderdale for $49 without even using $9 fare club savings. I use Spirit when I fly back to Vancouver Island from Costa Rica. It gets me as far as Vegas or LA and then I fly onwards with WestJet. Works out cheap to the WestCoast.

      Hi Richtwf,

Yes, I do have some advice for travelers from Europe. It's a great question, because of it's timeliness. On October 2, 2010 Iberia began offering flights between Madrid, Spain and El Salvador. For European travellers this is great news. Iberia is the first airline to offer flights between Madrid, Spain and El Salvador. The flight does involve one connection in Guatemala.

They are working with TACA through a code sharing agreement, and the flight from Guatemala to El Salvador is with TACA.

Any general advice for flying from Europe?

I once flew to El Salvador with United Airlines (just a couple of days pre 9/11) and had to fly from London Heathrow across the Atlantic to Washington then westwards across the US to LA and finally on to San Salvador - that was a very long journey indeed of almost 20+ hours! I was very fortunate to miss all the chaos that followed 9/11.

Useful hub and thanks for sharing.
