Christchurch , New Zealand ,is found on the South Island's east coast. Come with me and discover this vibrant young city with a vast ,exciting ,picturesque back-yard.!

Also known as 'The Garden City', it has often been referred to as the most English City outside of England. The Southern Alps run down the backbone of the province called Canterbury. Some of the mountain range in height of over 10,000 ft.

Lord of The Rings was filmed among much of that mountainous scenery and it is not hard to imagine why film makers enjoy the beauty and diverse landscape. During the winter months ,the Alps become wonderland magic for skiers, snowboarders, attracting not only local patrons but International enthusiasts as they follow the Winter Sports. Some of the bigger ski-fields have comfortable facilities , for socialising as well , restaurants ,bars etc.

Hunting and Fishing in one of biggest backyards in the world. Here they hunt Majestic Deer , Elk (trophy stags),and Wild Boar ,Chamois and Thar .Fish the clear spring lakes or the glacier fed mountain rivers, that are home to some of New Zealand's Salmon and Trout.

Christchurch New Zealand's Big Backyard..

A Playground To Be Respected.

As is common for all of New Zealand conservation is paramount ,along with safety ,and common sense. Department of Conservation (D.O.C) have provided many modern walking tracks, and viewing platforms. They also along with search and rescue ,recommend that if heading on tramping ( hiking trips ,you let family or friends know) if you are a visitor ,inform them. ( they have easy to find offices scattered throughtout national parks etc. They have used many hours of resources to protect the wildlife and your life ,so please respect their recommendations.

Tours and Transport

How you travel ,is really your preference. Be it plane ( which is probably how you got here) train, carf ,campervan, motorbike, bicycle, 4WD  tour ,ferry ( connecting the islands) or foot. Included is link for tours ,rental vehical.

Just an added here ,that you wont find on the more commercial tourist web sites is if youre planning to stay for quite a long vacation in Christchurch , New Zealand then a must see for used vehicles ( and properties to rent). Trade Me is NZ's version of Craigslist ,very organised and well set out. Another place to maybe email or call into are anyone of the  Backpackers hostels .They all have notice boards of travellers ready to sell their vehicles before returning home.

      Hi CJ

To answer your first question,I was curious, and I guess the USA was on my bucket list. I also was interested in a certain guy from Pa,and since he was shy about leaving the good ole U.S of A ,I flew to Pittsburgh.Long story(which I wrote a hub about, but teacher has asked me to rewrite it ) haha..anyway quick version I married an American.

Lol@ white tailed spiders, they are actually from Australia (yea we cant choose our neighbours)and they have been in NZ now since WW2 so a scientist informed me. I was bitten by one ,they are nasty lil spiders with attitude!, but haven't seen one for years now. They are not common in NZ, besides you are a sledgehammer!!

Gangs hmm, depends where you live, they seem to prefer the city life or congregate in one area, once again hardly see 'em,in fact I would say there are greater numbers in Auckland (N.Island) once again closer to cities, not unlike the states in that respect. (p.s I survived 18mths living in Youngstown,Ohio) so you would be more than capable of surviving migrant spiders, and wanna be hells angels bikers, lol.

Eaglekiwi, after reading this wonderful article I cannot imagine what would make a Kiwi leave for the United States?

Truth be known, I have flirted with the idea of visiting New Zealand, but the earthquakes, gangs and white-tip spiders scared me off.

I heard the gangs are even worse on the south island than the that true?

And, how does one cope with those terrible little white-tip spiders? I know they love beds and clothes, etc. I just don't think I could live with that kind of paranoia - always having to check my bed, shoes, chairs, etc.

I loved this article and want to know everything I can about New Zealand, especially from those who live there or lived there. Voted up!

Best wishes and be well - C.J. Sledgehammer

      Also, a couple of notes:

"Christchurch , New Zealand ,is " some of your punctuation (parenthesis, commas, etc.) is unevenly spaced. When you have time I strongly encourage to edit the text to make it appear a bit more professional.

      Thanks again!
