Croatia: My Tourist Destination
Visit Croatia
Croatia the Tourist Destination
I share some history of Croatia and of the surrounding regions of Croatia.
Croatia, situated in the southern part has become one of the most popular European destinations.
I have noticed in the recent years of my stay in the region, there are more tourists visiting the villages.
What do you know about Croatia?
- I learned the inhabitants have occupied Croatia since the Palaeolithic Age.
- It is interesting to know where the first to live in this country is.
- Illyrians have lived here since 1000 BC.
- I believe that Greeks settled as Indo-European people; they had trading posts in the sixth century BC, on the eastern Adriatic coast.
Vucedol culture has found its way to many other places such as:
Slovakia
Slovenia
Austria
Germany
Hungary
Czech Republic
These countries were occupied by Neanderthal life before going south of the Adriatic islands. In the fourth century BC, the Illyrians were forced south to Albania.
Some years later, in 168 BC, the Romans came into this region. The last Illyrian king was conquered by Genthius. Many wars passed before the Dalmatian coast came into sight.
The Romans conquered the place in 11 BC while it was occupied by the Pannonian tribe. In the process, the empire reached the lower Danube. For centuries the Romans were leaders of the five countries I know now as Solin at that time known as Salona which was the administrative quarters.
Trade escalated and the Romans earned from that. The other, called Zadar, was known as Jadera, and I know Porec, which then was called Parentium and Pula as I know it was called Polensium.
Finally, Split, a city I would like to visit soon was known as Spalato.
Unfortunately, the Roman Empire fell apart in the third century AD, this gave way to the Dalmatian Emperors.
Diocletian was born in what I know as Solin then called Salona. The Emperor was born in AD 236 and in AD 285 became Emperor of Solin.
The Amphitheater that has given Pula its popularity adds to a great impression of the Romans. Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina are part of the Western Roman Empire.
The Croatian Dalmatian coast has become popular and a place to be for tourists and the retired. In the sixteenth century, the Ottoman Empire engaged in a defeat of the Serbians in 1389. This opened the path to Bosnia.
The Croatians lost territory and the Adriatic coast was not taken by the Turks as they threatened to have that territory.
At the end of defeat Varazdin, Karlovac, and a strip of Zagreb became under the control of Habsburg.
Molunat
A delightful quiet bay popular for its fishing and daily fisherman brings in fish to sell to restaurants, to local people in the village. The picturesque place is away from the busy Dubrovnik.
Water is super clean and tap water is drinkable. The crystal-clear water is perfect for snorkelling to see the little fish in the clean water.
Marine life is close to the shore. A paradise for those who prefer quiet. The fishing village is twenty kilometres from the airport, and different to the busy lifestyle in Dubrovnik. A village that clings to the bay, and the views are spectacular.
There are two restaurants and numerous apartments for tourist booking. You can visit the local bar for a drink at your leisure and shop at a local supermarket if you need to stock up. I am in the south of Croatia and live close to an old castle it has become a popular tourist destination since 2013.
In 2014 I decided to open my own tourist business and enjoy what I do meet the different people from around the world and work five months of the season. Sokol grad the old mysterious castle has been restored and is open to tourists.
There have been many tourists visiting the region and find it fascinating. Croatia Is central and there are many borders around Croatia to travel to other countries, including Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo and Turkey.
A road trip sounds like a wonderful idea. Konavle meaning valley is in a valley, thus the name konavle for this region. I am impressed at the tall Cypress trees, straight and green. I watch it swaying from one end to the other on a windy day.
It is flexible and sometimes I see an owl sitting on the top of the Cypress tree. The many villages in Konavle are with red roofs and stone-built houses. The laid-back lifestyle has taught me to be patient and do what I want to when I feel like it.
I learned that life here is safe and people are friendly and hospitable. There is a lot more to learn about Croatia and I will have to continue my research about this lovely place.
Croatia is a clean country and has the cleanest beaches. There is no litter on the streets and plastic bottles are collected by the local people and recycled.
Useful to the environment and the people.
The whole time I lived in Croatia I met many people and it is great to have such a good social life.
The surrounding regions of Croatia are magnificent and worth visiting if you prefer the Islands.
To visit Croatia the Island, make up most of the region so you will need to be prepared for the high stair climb and for boat rides.
You can have a cable ride and oversee the views of the sea and Dubrovnik. A visit to Croatia may not suit everyone’s pocket, but worth saving for a visit.
