Dominican Republic: Photographs

Updated on September 17, 2011

I love photographing landscapes and waterscapes. The photos posted here are from my travels through the Dominican Republic earlier this spring (2011). Perhaps through them I can raise people's interest in the little Caribbean Island which I found simply spectacular.

My favorite photograph here is the one with the boat hanging-out by itself, rocking against the waves (the seventh photo in the bunch). Actually, that has been the background picture for my desktop for quite a while now. I really love sitting on the beach to watch the sun rise. That night I had slept on the beach altogether - I didn't bother to go back to the hotel. I have done that many times, in Cuba also ...

The other photographs of various birds and monkeys were taken on an excursion tour. The monkeys were really fun. They were the size of one's palm and would jump from one person to another ... we (the tourists) were used as trees - I didn't mind, having monkeys fly on and off my shoulders. It was a little difficult to photograph them since they were so jumpy but we were given food to feed them and they did calm down a little.

I cannot stress enough what an amazing experience I had while traveling through the Dominican Republic. The fact that I went twice, in February and March, should say it all. I just couldn't get enough so to speak: white beaches, the sand burning my feet ... it was all pretty awesome! If you can go - go without hesitation!

I love the ocean, too. The pictures are nice, but I bet they do not convey your impressions - pictures are only reminders of your memories (a little bit on the awkward side).

I wish I could go. If I could, I would.

Thank you for dropping by and leaving me a comment Mr. Spirit Whisperer.

Much would have to be said on the issue of spirits and such, regarding the Caribbean islands. In the Dominican as in Cuba, the spirits seemed very strong,; nothing that I have experienced before. These are tales for another time though. Cheers!

I have never even considered going to the Dominican Republic but after reading this I would definitely consider going now. I read a brilliant book a couple of months ago by Isabel Allende set in 5that region and I am surprised you did not pick up on dark spirit of the place because of the atrocities committed there against the slaves who worked the sugar plantations. I highly recommend you read the book. I actually listened to the audio book. The photos as always are stunning and like you I love watching the sun come up in the morning and especially if sitting on a warm beach. Thank you.
