Love driving through the tunnels
The destination
If you love traveling and your schedule allows you to travel any season of choice, that is fantastic news! On the other hand, if you are limited to what season you are free to travel is a whole different story.
There is a lot of time involved when traveling in winter; - to define your destinations that are more suitable for the season and countries you want to reach, - you will need really good planning.
Europe is almost as large as the United States and it has it's splendors any time of the year! You might need to know where you want to be and what kind of exploration your trip should include.

The Purpose
With certain age come certain preferences, where, when, why, and how we plan our traveling. Since I am pretty tied up when I my schedule allows me to travel, my free time is the winter months, - I have to arrange things so that I travel with purpose - to enjoy winter season and stay involved in some winter fun activity.
For some that might be skying, skating, enjoy winter festivals, visit family and friends. What I like is to visit mountain regions where you can enjoy the outdoor, but in a different way - give me the thermal baths address and I will be there!
Many of these small countries in Europe like, Austria, Slovakia, Check Republic, Germany and many others have these hidden treasures, this great destinations that might take you a little more time to find! Then, let the fun begin!

Travel Tips
As I mentioned, traveling in winter should be fun, have an interesting destination and everything should make sense!
Now, most European countries have no border, travel is simple and filled with great scenery and wonderful "autobahns" where you can try your driving skills. Do not go over the speed limits because there is a system put in place that will track all your moves.
Although renting in Switzerland seemed to be a good idea, you have to be aware of the culture, how their schedule works, and plan accordingly. In Geneva, at the rental office we were given a flyer and made aware of not so friendly citizens that will offer to help with your luggage and rather take of with it. Not the best impression to the first time visitors!
If you committed to bring the return car full-tank, do it during the day hours. Even so, they have pumps that are accepting credit cards 24/7 consider all the factors: international transactions fees apply, the fact that the machine really swallow your card first - it's uncertain that you get it back.
If anything goes wrong and there is no attendant, take pictures, write the name of the business you are at, take the address, know the time and date as well.
THE ADVANTAGE of Winter Travel:
- Somewhat less expensive airline tickets
- Less crowded roads, no waiting lines at places of interest, restaurants, shops
- Some of your friends will be in town and have some time to spend with you
- Local business owners will be less stress and take more time for your questions or to help you out
THE DISADVANTAGE of Winter Travel:
- The scenery doesn't look as rich and inviting, less colorful - although nice
- You have to carry more winter clothes items and boots (more weight in your luggage)
- Planning can be limited for certain activities only
Anytime you plan wright, there is a good chance that you will build great memories!
