Gamla Linkoping ( Old Swedish town )

Gamla Linkoping is an old Swedish town where you can witness of yourself how a Swedish town looked like 100 years ago. It is situated nearby few bus routes so you want have any trouble getting there. When it comes to places to see in Linkoping this is one of the must visit places. There is lot of history associated with the place and you can witness some amazing craftsmanship as well. You get to see an old bank , police station , beautiful woodcrafts , latest lamp designs and old lamps , weaving , sailor shop , chocolate center , old houses and a whole lot more. With all those things in one place you have to agree this is one place you have to visit while you are in Linkoping. Entrance and going around the town is free of charge and considering the things you get to see in this town it will be foolish not to visit the place. The very first building you find when you enter Gamla Linkoping is the old bank. There is a banker dressed in clothes that were used 100 years ago so you can ask some questions about the items displayed there. You get to see one of the first ever telephones made in the world. Then there are the old notes and coins display which could be pretty interesting if you are a swede. You get to see old calculators , how ledgers were kept in old days and how a bank looked like in those old days. Don't forget to take the guide available free of charge so you can go around Gamla Linkoping in an orderly manner. Very nice place to start your tour around the old town.

Another great place to visit is the weaving shop where you can see all sorts of things made from weaving. It is unfortunate that they don't let you take pictures because there were some beautiful items on display. If you are into stitching and things like that then this is a must visit place. Even if you are not into stitching the beautiful items on display will make the visit worthwhile.You can buy most of the items on display and if you are looking for some souvenirs to give to your mom, aunt or any lady then this is a good place to buy some.

This is my favorite place of them all. Coming from Moratuwa in Sri Lanka where it is famous for woodcrafts and furniture I have seeing some amazing artwork done from wood and the things displayed here were as just as good as them. It is amazing what you can achieve with some creativity and how a simple piece of wood can look so beautiful once you chop and fix it in few places. There were some great artwork which can easily impress anyone. Some of the wall hangings were simply amazing and be sure to check out the photos to get an idea of some of the beautiful things you can see there. Also you can buy those stuff for relatively cheap prizes as well. Wood is something that is plentiful in Sweden so it will take a while for glass dining tables to become popular.

If walking around the shops is getting tiresome or if you simple want to have a snack then there is a Cloetta shop inside Gamla Linkoping. Cloetta is one of the famous chocolate brands in Sweden and you can try out many varieties in the shop.This is one place where there was lots of people so you can be assured that the chocolate are good. Although Marabou is the most famous Swedish brand Cloetta is not far behind. In the first floor of the same shop you can see how chocolate was made during old days and how the factory developed. You can see old models that chocolates were made of and also you can see a model of a chocolate making machine. History and chocolate all in one place , my second favorite in Gamla Linkoping.

The above are some of the main attractions you will find in Gamla Linkoping , but there are many more things you can see. There is a lantern shop , A restaurant , A shop displaying various items used by sailors , an old police station and also an souvenir shop etc. The souvenir shop is a great place to buy souvenirs related to Sweden.
