Haridwar
Haridwar or Hardwar is an ancient & sacred town at the foothills of the Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand, India.
The holy river Ganga starts its journey to the plain lands of India from Haridwar.
Har-Ki-Pauri is the sacred site where Hindus from all over the world
take holy dips in the Ganga , which, they believe, will free them from
all sins. The ambience of this place is just seen to be believed.
Thousands of people, with dazzling variations in their appearances,
dresses, languages & customs but with a common belief in the
scripts of Hinduism mingle here with a common purpose of a holy dip in
the Ganga. Holymen or Sadhus of different sects roam freely, usually
with a more earthly purpose of catching prosperous clients! Sellers of
different commodities wait patiently for the customers. A large number
of shops compete with each other for customers. Many rich people offer
free food to Sadhus & the poor. Sounds of bells & conchs mingle
with chanting of holy scriptures & holy songs. The whole place is a
unbelievable experience.
Haridwar is connected to all major cities of India by rail, road & air.
