Haunted Woods on Waubascon

Updated on October 15, 2010

Is it real?

Battle Creek, Mi

First let me apologize for not having any photos. Haunted Houses are very secretive when it comes to taking pictures or filming of any kind. The Haunted Woods on Waubascon Rd. in Battle Creek, MI is no different. As October nears you might be looking for a place to take the kids to give them a fright or two. It’s not really a house, it’s the Haunted Woods. You will see very large signs as you enter the property, informing you that no filming of any sort will be tolerated, if caught, equipment will be confiscated.

The lines to wait for entry are for the most part very long, while you’re waiting in the chilly evening weather you will most certainly hear many extremely loud screams, coming from the woods. There is a 'port-a-potty' available before getting into line, you may want to use it. There are signs warning; “Those who are pregnant or have a Heart Condition should not enter.” And of course the ever popular “Enter at your Own Risk”. You will be briefly allowed some warmth as you enter the reception area, which is a small trailer, painted very dark, to help get your eyes acclimated to the dark.

$10 for the fright of your life, not a bad trade!

Haunted Houses or in this case Haunted woods are best viewed at night, this does not open until dark. The admission for this is $10.00 per person. You will be taken in groups of 2 or 3 but never more than 4. You will be escorted to the edge of darkness and at the moment of your first scare, your escort will have deserted you. There will be signs indicating in which direction you must take, but keep on the path because you never know what will be waiting in the wings.

Are You scared?

You will never be sure who is real and who isn’t in these woods, even real people are hanging from the ropes. Each new thing you come upon will force you on, ever forward, trying to get away from what is behind you. You must be careful to look under your feet as well, for there are things buried along the trail that might get you. Go ahead, try to touch them, see what happens. Unless you’re already dead, you will most certainly experience a fright…. or 10.

As your heart is racing and you become out of breath just wanting this nightmare to be over, you look around to find your companions are either far ahead of you or far behind. If you are wearing a coat or jacket you just might not need it, as the sweat begins to pour off your skin, the fear is so strong. You then come upon a building thinking this is the end. It is not to be. You have a maze to traverse littered with bodies and ghostly apparitions to get in your path. If you firmly plant yourself against the wall and feel your way through, you just might make it out alive! Or will you?
