How to Enjoy the Holidays in the Sacramento Area
Enjoying the Holidays in California's Capitol City
California’s Capitol City, Sacramento, is a City rich in tradition and history. Surrounded by rivers and lakes and found in a valley, Sacramento is a beautiful place to live and enjoy. And there is no better place to enjoy the holidays than Sacramento. Whether you want to stay close to home or take in some beautiful sites, Sacramento offers some great ways to enjoy the holidays.
The Ice Skating Rink
Although Sacramento does not get an annual snowfall to speak of nor do the temperatures often fall below the freezing level, Sacramento does offer a beautiful ice skating rink found in the heart of the City. The Westfield Downtown Place Ice rink is 7000 square feet and can accommodate up to 150 skaters at a time. The rink is sponsored by local businesses as a way to attract families to the downtown area. It is located near popular restaurants, cafes and the downtown mall. The Ice Rink is a great place for families or couples alike and a great way to spend a holiday evening.
Christmas Light Viewing.
During the holiday season, all around the Sacramento area there are spectacular Christmas Light displays. And the best part is that most of them are done by individuals or a group of individuals in a given neighborhood. One of the best known Christmas light displays is located on Dovewood Court in Orangeville, a suburb of Sacramento. Dovewood Court is just that, a Court of middle class homes in a middle class neighborhood. However, every holiday season the Court turns into a winter wonderland. It all began in 1982 and started as a neighborhood competition has grown into an extravagant celebration of the holidays. Each house has an amazing display of lights and art. Today, there is no charge to view these great lights. They simply ask to bring some cans for those less fortunate. And this is just one neighborhood in the Sacramento area. All around the area there are great displays. Many companies offer limousine rides to enjoy them all.

Let’s Go To the Snow
While Sacramento does not get much annual snowfall, a great part about living in Sacramento is its close proximity to the mountains. Within a drive less than an hour, any Sacramentan can be in a winter wonderland of snow. Up either Interstate 80 or Highway 50 are great ski resorts, sno-parks or nice areas just to throw some snowballs around. And what better way to enjoy the holidays is a day in the snow.
Enjoy Sacramento
Sacramento has much to offer to brighten any holiday season. And of course, for those who just cannot get enough, Sacramento has 4 major malls to shop and hundreds of small boutique shops as well. It is hard to find a better place to enjoy the holidays than Sacramento.
