How to keep the kids entertained this summer on a budget: Free UK Attractions
It can be hard to keep the kids entertained through the 6 week holidays in the summer especially without breaking the bank. However there are lots of great free attractions around the UK that will help you keep your costs down.
Scotland
Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a great place to visit just to take in the Royal Mile and its historic Buildings but there are plenty of free attractions to help keep your money in your pocket.
National Museum of Scotland
The National Museum of Scotland is full to the brim with great exhibits ranging from Dinosaurs through to future tech, so there is something for everyone within its walls. It is well worth a visit and as its free if you live or are in the area for a few days you can always go back if you miss anything first time. It is possible as I did not seen everything there was to see when I was last there.
The Museum is situated near Edinburgh University and not for from Edinburgh's historic old town.
The Peoples Story
A great place to learn about Edinburgh's social and economical past. The Museum is situated on the Canongate end of the Royal Mile in the Canongate Tollbooth which dates from 1591 and was used as a tax office and jailhouse.
Museum of Edinburgh
Situated opposite the Peoples Story this museum showcases Edinburgh's social history through its industrial past.
Museum of Childhood
This is another great free museum situated on the Royal Mile. Like the Peoples Museum the Museum of Childhood focuses of Edinburgh's social history but focusing on what it was like to be a child in the past. The Museum is full of great hands on activities including a puppet theatre and dressing up clothes.
