We went to the Big Island of Hawaii May 2010. My husband and I ministered out there in a native church. We have 4 children, but we only was able to bring the baby.
We drove across the entire island and explored God's amazing creation at it's best.
Of course I took a thousand plus pics, but I am only sharing a few.
The Big Island has a vast diversity of land and climates. You may be in a tropical region one moment, drive ten minutes up a mountain and your in desert wastelands with cactus and cold weather.
Sometimes you may drive through miles of flat lands with black lava rock only to end up in blissful mountains and rolling hills of green that reflect more of a country scene than tropical. Then you may go to a sandy beach where it feels 90 degrees then drive a little further where the beaches are all black lava rock and rainy with a cool breeze.
It's the perfect island of variety!

A picture could not do this justice, you just have to be there to soak in the sun and taste the salty ocean air to appreciate it. | Source

Several of the beaches on the Big Island are lined with lava rock instead of sand. My baby Aleana enjoyed it, she felt safer from the water. She was the only one of my four kids we got to bring. I am definitely wanting all my children to next time. | Source
