If You’re Visiting Budapest, You Have To Try at Least 1 Escape Room!
Also many tourists are looking for amusement and entertainment opportunities, and this is not a coincidence. It is truly a unique kind of entertainment, an exciting experience, and the best part about it is that you can share it with others. The rooms have all a different vibe but have one thing in common: you will be enchanted, and they strip you away from reality.
Since I’m also an adventurer, it goes without question that I’ve visited some rooms already, but of course not all.
1. It is certainly worth checking forums with most users, such as Tripadvisor, Facebook or Forsquare and what they are writing about each escape room (although on the latter one you can read many times only opinions that date back to years).
2. There are also websites that gather information on escape rooms (here and here), where we can search all escape rooms, book them and choose a theme, which can be military, mystic, detective, teamwork, erotic, historic, high-tech or even horror.
3. You can get even more into it if you choose a room which mood you can connect with or a room that conjures up an era dear to us and boosts our imagination. The quality of the arrangement, the attention to detail are particularly important because that is the reason the game be a true experience.
4. The bigger escape rooms with more rooms are probably more exciting and present more opportunities to play. Of course, everyone has to start from somewhere. Many years ago, I visited an escape room where there was only one room to be found, but it absolutely fascinated me with its attention to detail (since then the operators are among the “big ones” with several rooms).
5. The escape ratio can also be a factor to be considered: The first time it’s not worth visiting an extra difficult room because every escape room requires unique logic, which you need to pick up and get to know.
Some escape rooms to be considered
If we take a look at the reviews on Tripadvisor it’s good news that all first ten escape rooms got an excellent review, which means that all other competing places are trying to keep up the pace. On first place we can find the rooms of E-exit games (with 666 reviews), and no visitor rated them as weak or awful.
“There are no locks, which is very refreshing, and the scenery and the tasks were also very sophisticated and creative”, says an escape artist, another one described the experience as follows: “We enjoyed the game because it was more mindful than the others we have tried before. We haven’t visited a room until now where several rooms were connected with each other, and I really liked that sometimes you don’t have to use your brain all the time, and that you can also move physically.” (The latter experience I can confirm: moving between rooms can make these experiences very exciting.
The scenery of the rooms of the Mystic rooms (5 all together) are all sophisticated, and it is no surprise that they advertise themselves as the owners of “the most beautiful escape rooms”. “The scenery were beautiful, the hiding spots are great, the riddles are logical, to sum it up, we had a good fun”, says another reviewer on Tripadvisor. The escaped group can take their picture in costumes, which many people rate as a plus (“You could go always to the next task, and the number of riddles was just enough. It was great that you could dress up as a monk for the picture”).
The difficulty level of the rooms is different, it’s useful even on-the-spot to get some information before we’re heading to the game: “The room is arranged professionally. The riddles are diverse and they’re working with quality materials which are reflected in the scenery. I would only recommend this room to experienced escapers, and you should arrive well rested because quick thinking is required.”
“Genius. The events snowballed. The riddles where very entertaining at the beginning, and then the whole experience started to be adventurous”, says a review on Tripadvisor about one of the TRAP escape rooms from last year. The location at Paulay Ede utca awaits visitors with 4 rooms at the time, and another room - which will most likely have an Alien type scenery - is under construction.
“The medieval room simply rules, and we didn’t have so much fun at any place in the past. I recommend it for every age group”, says another positive feedback, and you cannot find really any negative critics, although TRAP has not one, but two profiles on Tripadvisor that can be visited (here and here).
The Locked-room team is a veteran when it comes to escape rooms. One half of the team is comprised of members from ExitPoint Games, who are always closing Fogas ház, a party complex, and who have created the seven rooms together with the team of Locked .
The first room of the creative ExitPoint team was under in the basement of the church at Kálvin tér. But it was clear also then that the planners wanted to construct these rooms very refined, almost as if they were touched by art. The arrangement is absolutely authentic, which is due to the fact that all furniture is original, most of them arrived from a place which the story is about.
The Paniq room is located in the Mária utca and is a leader among the strong competitors.
We also enjoyed the design of the game of the hotel room. The third generation escape room had all the equipment, old-style riddles, and it had a true story, which was we could conclude thanks to the perfectly arranged rooms”, reports a player, but if you take the time to scroll through all the comments you will only find good reviews. “I have been to many escape rooms before, but this is the best one out of all. Nothing seemed worn-out, everything functioned well, it was a great experience. We visited the Research Base room, you have to be prepared that it’s going to be a tough ride, but it’s not impossible to escape”, notes the veteran escape artist.
These games always have an insider game lord, whom can be asked for help. In some rooms the game lords role is essential for the team to be able to continue to the next riddle and not to get stuck at an unsolvable part of the game.
