Road Trip Jamaica Photo Series: Kingston to May Pen

Updated on September 22, 2010

Glendon and his wife have led church ministries, conducted empowerment seminars, and travelled to faraway places on business and vacation.

Impatient to create wonderful landscape art I am developing shutter happy fingers with the phone camera these days. I think I will miss the unobtrusiveness of the smart phone when I finally get around to purchasing a new digital camera. The only weakness of the smart phone is that you have to make at least two movements (mouse roll and then click) for each picture whereas a dedicated digital camera is point and shoot.

So the following represents a slice of life from my day. Believe it or not I was working but happened to sitting in the front passenger seat for extended periods.

You might just be stimulated to consider visiting Jamaica on your island trips. The north coast is great but these picture will show you some of the places you will drive through on your way to your Kingston holidays.

Let's Get This Show on the Road

Like I said in an earlier hub, I just love to look for vertical elements to frame a scene. View from car park of Ministry of Education in Kingston Gardens, officially called National Heroes Circle.

National Heroes Circle A Great Starting Point

We had just come out of the Ministry of Education building when I decided to shoot a pic of wife because i was impressed with her colour coordination. ( I decided to omit that pic for sake of privacy).

I just continued to shoot landscapes, or should I say cityscapes.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Usually I Am the One Driving

Usually I am the driver, but we had taken turns eating lunch while the other was at the steering wheel, and right now I had just finished eating and decided that since I had missed so much sleep the previous night it would be safer for me to sleep on the way to Mandeville.  I chose to take pictures instead.

Boulevard to Mister Nelson Mandela Highway

There are competing weather elements. We have bright sunny southern sky but rain was approaching in the north. I know by now that the smart phone, like most small cameras, performed better in bright sunshine so I tried to soak up the scenery quickly.

Highway 2000 to May Pen

As usual I was imploring wife to drive slower.  She does not comply with any request from me but this is a travel hub not family politics!

I was both sleep-deprived and enjoying the photography so I tried to endure the stress.  I am very uncomfortable with speeding.  She was going like 10km over the limit, but it felt like warp speed to me.
