Updated on January 10, 2010

A Jamaica Vacation

A Jamaica vacation offers all the luxuries you could ask for in an all-inclusive Caribbean vacation or all the adventure you could want in an action filled holiday. Jamaica is a hotspot for watersports of all varieties. Water activities range from swimming, surfing, windsurfing, waterskiing, diving, and snorkelling – and likely any other water sport you could want. If a golfing vacation is more your style, Jamaica has some of the most beautiful and challenging courses of the Caribbean. If you’re looking for more adventure during your trip to Jamaica, you could hike the Blue Mountains, climb a waterfall, or ziptrek through a jungle. Nature tourism is becoming very popular in Jamaica, and there are a wide variety of activities one could take part in.

Places to Visit

Kingston is the capital city of Jamaica. There are two major areas of Kingston – downtown and uptown (also known as New Kingston). A visit to Kingston will also let you visit the Bob Marley Museum, the National Gallery of Jamaica, Port Royal (previously known as the “Richest and wickedest city in the world” – a former pirate city), Hope Botanical Gardens, and many other museums and sites within Kingston.

Montego Bay is the second largest city in Jamaica, but the largest tourist destination in the country, and home to the largest international airport in the country. It is a busy, loud and active city full of charm. There are many locations to shop in Montego Bay – shopping centers, craft market, or the City Center Plaza would be your destinations of choice. Montego Bay also offers art galleries, a water park, and a bird sanctuary, among other destinations, if you’re looking to keep busy while visiting Jamaica.

For a quieter Jamaican vacation, Negril would be a suitable option. With it’s long stretches of soft white sand beaches,  and it’s reputation for the most beautiful city in Jamaica, you wouldn’t be disappointed if you choice your Negril as your vacation destination.  A visit to Rick’s Café will let you watch cliff jumpers dive into the waters below, and view one of the best sunsets in the world.
