Lago Maggiore in January

Lago Maggiore is one of the beautiful, most visited lake in Europe, a part of Swiss and Italian territory.

It is a place where one could take a few days to relax, a hide away after Christmas and New Year celebration, a hectic life, school and job activities where there are few tourist around in low seasons.

It is only about 4 hours travelling with our auto from Bern passing the Gothard Tunnel, Locarno, with a short stop in Baveno Promenade, Stresa to Meina in Residence Antico Verbano, where we stayed for 3 days.

Government and private transportation facilities, accomodations, tour excursions can be self organized or through travel agencies.

Arona, Lago Maggiore, Italy

Arona has a beautiful lake promenade, lots of restaurants and is the most visited city even in Winter season. Most visitors are from Mailand.

Arona has a typical medieval character, although its origins date back to about 1500 BC. Testimonies of the Gallic and Roman rule can be admired in the museum of Arona.

Due to its exposed location and the harbor on Lake Maggiore, it rapidly became a rich trading city.

A beautiful panorama from the Lake Promenade one can admire the castle, the. Rocca di Arona, The castle was ruled by the archbishops of Milan, the Torriani families, Visconti and Carlo Borromeo, which was after his canonization, a 35 m high statue was erected.

Italy has three large lakes, Lake Maggiore, Lake Como and Lake Garda.

One of the tours that Italians love most is that runs through the entire tour of the lake in a day.

Around the Lake Maggiore is one of the most fascinating and allows you to cross the border to go to Switzerland, where there are two charming villages like Ascona and Locarno, the latter is the location of a major film festival.

Thank you for sharing your article, voted Up and beautiful!
