Mountain tourism: the Picos de Europa
The Picos de Europa are a mountain range located in the north of Spain, specifically in the Cantabrian mountain range, divided between Asturias, Cantabria and León. Due to their peculiar geographical situation, right next to the sea, the Picos de Europa are an area rich in all kinds of peculiar accidents and truly unique landscapes. The Picos de Europa National Park, the second most visited in Spain after the Teide National Park, is an excellent option to travel in December. The peak -although not the highest- best known by mountaineering lovers and the general public is, without a doubt, the Naranjo de Bulnes.
If we talk about travelling in December, the Picos de Europa is a region full of the most varied charms. It is an ideal area to practice sports such as hiking or mountaineering, or simply to lose a few days away from the city in an area of authentic nature. It is also remarkable the gastronomy of the region, being especially important the production of dairy products such as cheese: here is the famous region of Cabrales. For animal lovers, the typical fauna of the oceanic climate is shown here in all its splendour: wild boar, deer, roe deer, foxes, bears, wolves... it goes without saying that fans of sport hunting will also have many opportunities to enjoy here.
There are numerous rural houses and hotels in nearby villages (Cangas de Onís, Bulnes, La Peña, etc.) at the disposal of those who want to travel to the Picos de Europa National Park in December. The region is also very well connected. This December there is no excuse for mountain lovers.
