New York New York Hotel and Casino - Las Vegas

Updated on August 1, 2013

I stayed at the New York New York hotel and casino while vacationing in Vegas. Thought of writing a short review so that it could be helpful for anyone contemplating on staying at this hotel.

Location, Booking and Room Rates

Let me start with the preferences I was looking for while I set out to book a hotel in Vegas.

I was looking for an air + hotel package deal at a reasonable rate for about a week's stay. Since this was going to be my first visit to Las Vegas, I did not want an accommodation too far away from the strip. In fact, I was more keen on looking for a good deal right on the strip! There are many hotels on and off the strip in Vegas and I am sure you can get a much cheaper deal than I did...but I chose this one based on reviews from trusted websites and wasn't disappointed at all.

The New York New York hotel has an excellent location. It is right on the strip, and in close proximity to MGM Grand, Excalibur, Monte Carlo, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. These are towards the southern part of the strip.

I had booked my package deal directly from the hotel website. I got the Park Avenue room at about $55 per night which is a pretty good deal for a decent hotel right on the strip. The room was moderately spacious. The room did have a strip view but while checking in, we (I traveled with my husband) did mention that we wanted a "strip view" and had to pay about $20 extra per night. But since we were going to spend a week in Vegas we were ready to compromise on the extra bucks! All Park Avenue rooms have an electronic safe to keep your valuables locked while you are away. The staff are friendly and always ready to help you with any questions. Our housekeeper kept the room perfectly clean each day.

Hotel Amenities and Transportation

If you are traveling to Vegas with family I would certainly recommend this hotel as it has a games section entirely devoted towards kids. The roller coaster within the hotel premises is also another attraction. The pool side can be used to relax and hang out with your family. The hotel does not have an adults only pool and I think that is one of the other reasons as to why many families choose to stay here.

I found that I can comfortably walk up to Bellagio but beyond that its tiresome to walk during the day due to the heat. But there are local bus stops near the hotel and the nearest monorail station is at the MGM Grand which is directly opposite NY NY. Also there are free tram services running between Excalibur and Mandalay Bay. Hence plenty of transportation facilities available from casino to casino in the vicinity.

Places to Eat

There are plenty of eating options inside the hotel. For Chinese and Sushi lovers check out "Chin Chin". Amazing Chinese food! I just loved it. "America" is a good place for breakfast. For fast food check out "Nathans". There are various other restaurants to eat in. Pick your favorite according to your preferences.

Cons

The only con I would say is that you may hear some noise from the roller coaster (people screaming) if your room is on the lower floors.
