Updated on January 26, 2017

North Wales Attractions

North Wales in UK has some beautiful tourist attractions which are worth visiting. Among them the magnificent castles are very popular. We had an opportunity to visit one of the famous castles of North Wales - Caernarfon Castle. We visited this historic castle on a bright day and the castle looked magnificent. You can also read about the reviews at tripadvisor about this historic place.

We wanted to visit Harlech Castle also, but unfortunately we couldn't do so.

Caernarfon Castle

North Wales is famous for the beautiful castles which are scattered all over the place. Most of these Castles were built by the English Monarch Edward I as a military protection. He built Harlech Castle in the late 13th century.

Caernarfon Castle was also built by King Edward I. Caernarfon Castle is one of the main castles located in the Caernarfon town. It was built not only as a military stronghold but also as a seat of government and a royal palace. The first English Prince of Wales, Edward of Caernarvon, was born in this castle in 1284. It is one of the most impressive castles of Wales and therefore it is also a popular tourist destination. Whenever you visit Wales it is one of the main destinations to be kept in mind.

Castle location

This magnificent castle is located on the busy quayside at the mouth of the River Seiont, at the northern edge of Snowdonia, which separates Anglesey from North Wales and it is a most beautiful location. Caernarfon lies on the west end of the Menai Strait, standing in a magnificent position at the foot of the mountains overlooking Anglesey.

It is at this castle Prince Charles’s investiture took place in 1969 as Prince of Wales.

Caernarfon Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
