Old Fashioned Cafes in Bandung West Java Indonesia
There are many new and stylish cafes and restaurants in my city, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. But at least there are three old fashioned cafes that really have delicious ice creams and cakes. These cafes are still preserving the old-fashioned taste and quality, like years ago when The Dutch still occupied Indonesia.
Many elder people used to visit these cafes just to enjoy their old memories. These cafes definitely bring their old sweet memories back.
1. RASA Bakery and Cafe
Address : 15 Tamblong Street, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia
Phone : +62-22-4205530 ; +62-22-4201428
Opened first in 1936 and became the favorite place for The Dutch people to enjoy some tea with snacks in the evening. This place was called Hazes.
In 1966, Hazes was bought by Mrs. Kamarga, an Indonesian woman. And she changed the name into RASA until now. (Rasa means taste).
RASA Bakery and Cafe still preserves the European interior and style, like the window's shape and the exterior part.
The best thing in RASA is the ice cream. Or maybe because I love ice cream so much :) But ice cream has been the most recommended in RASA. What made it so special is because it's a homemade ice cream. They maintain the originality and quality of their ice cream recipes. I think the ice cream is very fresh and not so sweet.
You may enjoy many kind of ice creams, like Snow White, Black & Beauty, Banana Split, Mount Blanc (which is mocca ice cream with lady finger and whipped cream as the topping), and exotic ice creams like Hawaiian Love Song (different flavors of ice cream with fruit cocktail served on top of a pineapple) and ice cream served on top of a young coconut.
The presentation is so gorgeous and tastes really good, that make RASA's ice cream unforgettable.
Beside ice cream, RASA also serves old-fashioned cakes like amandel cake (still become recommended cake in RASA from 1936 until now) and the Dutch cakes like Poffertjes are also become favorite here.
Price range : 10,000 - 30,000 IDR or $1-$3

Still an old-fashioned cafe. It was known as Maison Bogerijn in the Colonial era. Established in 1921 by the Bogerijn family and became very luxury and sophisticated also famous restaurant at that time.
The ice cream and chocolate or praline in this cafe are great. They sell some oldies snacks too like bitterballen (melted in tongue oh..), pastries, and marshmallows. But they serve Indonesian dishes as well as European and Chinese like beef steak, salad, soup and crab fried rice.
The dessert that is worth trying is pancake.

Near the Braga Permai, there is another old-fashioned bakery and cafe, it called Sumber Hidangan (means Source of Dishes)
This place was established in 1929, at that time it called : Het Snoephuis means The Candy House.
Visitors may hardly recognize this cafe because they don't have a clear sign outside, but if you're browsing along Braga street and ask local people about Sumber Hidangan, they will definitely point it for you. Most of Bandung people know this place.
Sumber Hidangan sells many oldies cakes, cookies, snacks. The ice cream is cheap and delicious. All the cakes and breads name are all in Dutch, like Zwieback, Roomsoes, Frou Frou Mocca, Doublet Bokkepootjes (double lady fingers meringue with chocolate), Taai Taai Pop (ginger bread), Krentenbrood, Ananastaart, and many more.
