Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum, Niagara Falls - Fun for the Whole Family
Ripley's Believe it or Not! museum can be found in the bustling area of Clifton Hills in Niagara Falls, Ontario. It is one of many Ripley's museums around the world. Established in 1963, it's known as one of Niagara's best museums, and it's certainly one of the most popular. Robert Ripley made it his mission in life to travel the world and collect the strangest, most fascinating, unbelievable artifacts he could find, as well as learn customs, curiosities and illusions from different cultures, and track down people with odd and interesting talents.
Some of the things you'll find in Ripley's
Among the 700 plus exhibits in Ripley's Believe it or Not, you'll find everything from replicas of two-headed animals, to the world's fattest man (weighing in at 1,400 pounds) and the world's tallest man (8'11 1/2"), to a vampire killing kit circa 1850, authentic shrunken human heads, and voodoo paraphernalia from Africa, the Caribbean and New Orleans. You never know what you're going to come across next, and each thing is more unbelievable and bizarre than the last. There are also interactive displays and activities that will mess with your mind and bend reality. Two of the fun interactive displays that also make great photo opportunities are the Chippendale chair that belonged to "Viking Giant" Johann Petursson, and the 18th century Spanish public humiliation stocks.
There's also the Niagara Theater, where you can sit down and watch
videos of daredevils from the past who have attempted to cross or go over the
Falls, and even those who have taken accidental trips over
the Falls. You'll also take a trip through a dark and spooky graveyard
with full-sized tombstones that have unusual and hilarious epitaphs that
Robert Ripley found in cemeteries all over the world and recreated for
the delight and amusement of museum-goers. Two of my personal favorite
epitaphs: "Here lies the body of dentist DeMille in the largest cavity
he'll ever fill" and "Beneath this stone my wife doth lie, she's now at
rest and so am I".
