Why stay near Termini Station in Rome ?

Updated on January 20, 2016

Visiting Rome

Rome is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and is a joy to visit in all of the four seasons. The city is packed most of the year and in high seasons can often be hard to find accommodation, which is surprising with the amount of accommodation providers and add that to the newer types such as airbnb.

A great way to visit the city expecially for those on a budget is looking for lodging close to Termini station in which is centrally located and has lots to offer. There are a variety of options such as Hostels where you could try Four Seasons Hostel or if you are looking for something a little more in the Hotel chain budget there us Radisson Blu right near by the station. Otherwise just make a visit the Booking who have hundreds of properties located near by Termini station or just the above mentioned Airbnb for more homely lodgings.

Why stay near Termini ?

Staying near Termini station has plenty of benefits. Firstly the central station is the main hub of transports, so if you are arriving from Fiumicino Airport the direct train which is the Leonardo Da Vinci Express arrives to Termini so this way you can be walking distance from your lodging.

The shuttle buses which arrive from both Fiumicino and Ciampino Airport also arrive to Termini station so will ease your arrival at the hostel. If you do decide to try to make it to the city center public transport most of the links to bus and metro will arrive to Termini. So just for your arrivals and departures Termini is a good location to place yourselves.

Termini station is also like a mini mall with lots of restaurants, snack bars and self service places to eat, along with the regular fast food places such as McDonalds etc. The station now has a vareity of shops, so if you are looking for some last minute gifts for friends and relatives or just to buy a new outfit for your night out in Rome the central station seems to have lots of choice.

Roma Termini also boasts 3 supermarkets with Conad downstairs in the station open from 6 am until midnight which can be a great help as most of the supermarkets in Rome close at 8pm and its hard to find a mini market in the city.

Termini station is also walking distance from many of the major sights so you can be at the Colosseum in approx 0 minutes or 30 mins down to the central shopping district where you can find the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venenzia, Spanish steps and Via del Corso which connects Piazza Venezia with Piazza del Popoloo.

Around Roma Termini as there are so many accommodation providers you will find lots of Restaurant options which are usually cheaper and also less tourist traps. In the streets around the station you can find local Roman Trattoria's, Napolitan Pizza, along with Ethnic and fusion style restaurants.

If you are looking for a great Pizza Napoli style you can try Meid in Nepols or if you are looking for something with a twist maybe The Bramble Bar & Kitchen which offers Italian food with a twist. For an ethnic pick you could try Afrika which is a Eritrean restaurant in which there are quite a few in Rome due to when Eritrea was colonized by the Italians.

Bars & Nightlife

Termini now has a number of night spots which have opened up in the past few years. This area of the city was once known as a little un-kept but in recent years the city has done great work in cleaning up the Termini are and now is great place to go out.

There are various Irish Pubs such as Druids Den and Druids Rock or Old Station which is a small dance club. If you are looking for something a little more Italian you could try Trimani Wine bar.

Choose Termini

While staying in a Hotel, Hostel or BnB at Termini wont give you the view of St Peter's or the Colosseum, however if we are talking about value for money and all the amenities you would need and ease of access the Termini area beats all the other areas of Rome when choosing a place to stay for your trip.
