Royal Caribbean Cruises for Families

Updated on October 15, 2010

Royal Caribbean cruises are becoming a popular vacation option for many families, largely because of Royal Caribbean’s Adventure Ocean® Youth Program. This interactive program teaches youth about new things as they travel, such as facts about the different ports visited, how sailing works, or new sports. The Adventure Ocean program focuses on providing youth with fun, educational activities to make their vacation more enjoyable.

Participation

Specifically, the Adventure Ocean Youth Program is a complimentary program for families vacationing with Royal Caribbean. This program differs on each cruise, but all the programs include learning activities, science experiments, and encouraging kids to make friends with their fellow travelers. The Adventure Ocean Youth Program is open to children ages 3 to 17 (participants must be potty-trained, as no pull-ups or diapers are allowed). Participants are grouped by age (3 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 11, 12 to 14, and 15 to 17) so that all activities are age appropriate. The Adventure Ocean Youth Program staff may allow participants to move to another age group based on interest and maturity level. However, all participants must participate in one day activity session and one night activity session with their age group first.

Staff

The Adventure Ocean Youth Program staff are competent and well trained; each staff member holds a college degree in education, recreation, or a similar field and has experience in working with children. All staff members are also certified in CPR. Parents can feel good about leaving their children in competent hands with the Adventure Ocean staff. While the Adventure Ocean Youth Program does include family time where parents and kids can do activities together, this program also includes many kids-only activities to allow kids to have their own fun and parents to have some free time to themselves. These activities include kids-only meals, TV for kids, play areas, and a nightclub for teens. This program ensures that both kids and parents have a great vacation!

Time for Parents
Through its Adventure Ocean Youth Program, Royal Caribbean cruises allow parents to have some time to themselves to enjoy the many comforts that Royal Caribbean offers. While these vary by cruise, adult activities include full-service spas, fine dining, on-board casinos, a fitness center, bars, and specialty restaurants. Or adults can simply take a stroll around deck and watch the sunset and water go by! Adventure Ocean staff can even pick up children after they have finished a family meal so that parents can continue their evening at their leisure.
