Sailing Off for a Taste of Europe

Updated on April 2, 2013

Are you getting tired of the boring and repetitive array of dishes that the quick-service restaurants offer? Perhaps, you are one of the many people who took oath at the New Year’s Eve – declaring to the whole world that you will shift your diet to its healthier equivalent. Benedicto Hementera, my father and Maribeth Ono, my friend are culinary enthusiasts and experts of their own creative dishes once said that you can buy and eat any kind of dish but you cannot buy nor force appetite. Have you ever experienced finishing a meal and yet you feel less satisfied, less pleased, less energized and less happy? Eating is one of life’s greatest pleasures. “I feel full” is totally different from “I feel great”. The former connotes that the physical need of obtaining food (Nourishment). However, the latter connotes that eating is a pleasurable and a guilt-free experience (Nourishment + Health + Joy). Thus, do we really enjoy our food? The choice is yours to make. Prince Fusion Gourmet seeks to fill this void with a hearty dose of European charm through their cut-priced fine dining all-star menus that truly give you a flavourful knockout. This unequivocally warm feeling after savouring every bite, heralds you to a blissful great new day!

Fine dining experience poses its passionate love affair with wide assortment of food selections. Food is served in six tasteful sequels or episodes like a finely choreographed performance. Fine dining creates a platform for heartfelt conversations. The in-betweens of an artistic 6-food service sequence propels the casual, mundane and speedy one-sided blabberfest into a heart to heart sentimental fascination of life narratives or dialogue-a-thon that brings people together, if not even closer.

I am lucky to have experienced the best of Europe’s tastiest side at Golden Prince Hotel and Suites in the heart of Cebu City, Philippines. For the opening nosh, I helped myself into a mouthful of their soup, Cream of Mushroom that charmed my tastebuds into its creamy goodness. A dish of sautéed mushrooms in cream and glazed in cherry brandy.

I was more than excited to wait for the next dish! The waiter served the Restaurant’s well-esteemed appetizer Spanokopita, a cream spinach with Feta Cheese wrapped in Fillo Pastry with Grape Juice. Every bite was heavenly. The slight crunch of pastry wrapper with the lightly-seasoned, naturally flavoured spinach exudes an inimitable hold on your sense of taste. A sure-hit healthy craving that you do not want to miss!

A worthy follow-up to the impeccable foretaste is the salad Mixed Greens with Honey-Lemon Vinaigrette. Aside from showcasing a contrast of colors, it was also a total revelation of flavours and texture from the crisp mixed greens with tropical fruits such as mango and watermelon which are artfully proportioned and coated with honey lemon dressing. You get to relish the freshness of the finest ingredients that piece up together into your own gastronomic liking.

Another most-sought after dish, Aglio Olio. It is a pasta with garlic and olive oil. It has a texture that only a perfect pasta can deliver. It is made up of a handful of fresh ingredients. The choice of a good olive oil is equally important and meticulously selected by the Chefs. It may look deceptively simple but this dish offers astonishing flavours. Leading you to a taste of Italy, the experience which can be encapsulated into a known Italian phrase, “Delizioso! Just like how grandma used to make it!” I am very much whetted for the next round.

Chilean Sea Bass with Mashed Potato in Black Truffle Sauce is a creatively designed dish with the highest quality of ingredients that brings a novel of happiness. This rare delicacy is bursting with unique flavour. Prince Fusion Gourmet has no regret in investing for a highly-expensive sauce, this dish would surely give you a truffle extravaganza feast!

Lastly and a-must-enjoy is their Knicker Bocker, a viscerally-satisfying dessert. A four season fresh fruits with gelatine and cream topped with ice cream and a pair of glistening cherry. Happiness is truly a mouthful bite you can get. It is a laudable-finish to a fantastic meal! The culmination of the experience would really make you stumble in love with a taste of Europe and would surely satiate your every taste – enthralling you for this hearty food selection.

I am lucky to have experienced this set menu for only Php 495. I SALUTE these commendable people who never cease to stick their neck in deep work and who never falter to rally their flags to a whole new level of delightful experience in savouring our meals. Chef Arnel Quilestino and Chef Marlou Almasco, the two award-winning chefs create beautifully executed menus that would surely make a solid line-up of people from everywhere. The six thought-provoking dishes are enough to tempt me back. This is surely a food lover’s UTOPIA. Mr. Aaron Que, Marketing Management Trainee remarked, “It is a pinnacle of achievement that Prince Fusion Gourmet is venturing into a fine-dining service through The Taste of Europe. With an ample amount of nerve to push harder and bolder than the usual, temerity, talent and luck, Prince Fusion Gourmet expects to serve the bustling populace who have mostly outgrown dining to usual restaurants. The more you fall in love with these experiences, the more you crave to pamper yourself repetitively through our set menus. Prince Fusion Gourmet provides a balance between high-end cuisine with a relaxing, casual dining atmosphere that you will surely love.”

Of the many-splendored things in life, the food which you eat and the genuine people you dine with can spell an escalation of rejoicing the simple yet meaningful moments of your life. Celebrate it!

That was quite a meal and your description of each dish made me feel as if I experienced it there with you. Cooking is art in its own form. Our appetite is driven as much by our eyes as it is our palate thus the sheer beauty and simplicity of many dishes really drives our taste buds to the peak of desire. For me, all that was needed was a really good wine as a compliment to a fine meal. Nice work! ~WB

Thank you for showing interest! My country, Philippines especially in Cebu City can hopefully be your next alternative for your travel sprees. Yes, the Spanokopita is definitely a must-try! Prince Fusion Gourmet joined the bandwagon of combining the best of both worlds (Eastern and Western cuisine). I think in Europe - they have that substantial emphasis on meat. However, Chef Arnel and Chef Marlou created healthier dishes - creating more delectable fish dishes but with more European dressing or accompaniment. Although, they also have a meat dish (US Rib-Eye) I love their wine reduction method used on those dishes because it did extract a myriad of flavors on seemingly and deceptively simple menus. Hope you can try that out, too. :)
