Travel Sites to Find City and Hotel Reviews

Updated on August 15, 2013

Have you been wanting to step outside of your box and fly the coop to some exotic locale? You might also be wondering where you can go. Let’s face it, no one wants to go on a vacation to a place that they have never heard of nor seen. So what do you do? How do you know what a place is like when it’s 5,000 miles away? Easy, the internet! Here’s a list of websites that offer reviews of places to stay so you don’t have to fly 5,000 miles to a place you will regret staying.

TravBuddy

TravBuddy is a site where travelers can comment on current and future travels. Some even meet one another in person. After their meeting a bit of a review is even given on those that they have met; “vouching” for them. Travel advice and reviews on each place users have been is given for those looking for the real deal on a location or hotels in that location plus more. When searching for reviews, one must fill in the destination they are looking for in the search box. Underneath the description of the destination, a listing of the cities or locations near it will appear. Upon clicking on the place you’re curious about, you will find reviews written by the users to help you make a better decision on where you want to stay.

Virtual Tourist

A travel advice website gathering travelers alike to discuss their traveling experiences. They share tips and personal experiences about the hotels they’ve stayed in and provide answers to questions future travelers may have. Searching here will give you info on things to do, hotels, hot spots to eat, shopping, tourist traps and lots, lots more. Virtual Tourist also offers hotel availabilities and pricings. Reviews are given in a pros versus cons fashion along with reviewers opinions of where they visited.

Lonely Planet

Lonely Planet is a full-out service to those ready to hit the high skies. It gives up to the minute news on what’s going on in the world; providing travelers with travel articles, trip planning and popular destination info. They even sell books on different countries for those interested in finding out more about a destination. Their The Thorn Tree forum is where travelers come together to ask questions and get answers about destinations that they plan on traveling to. Insurance quotes are also provided for those interest.

TripAdvisor

TripAdvisor is well known for its travel info. Most places you visit these days worry about the rating they will get from past visitors. It’s become one of the best go-to places to check out reviews on pretty much anywhere a traveler has an interest in roaming. Info on hotels, destination facts and pricings can be found along with reviews from those that have been there and done that. By simply searching by hotels or destinations, reviews are clearly visible for you to click on and find out the info you're looking for.

Vacation Rental Sites

VRBO and Homeaway are both popular websites that offer lodgings to those that are in need of a place to stay when vacationing. The principle behind the two is to provide owners with renters for a condo or major resorts for vacationing purposes. When vacations are all said done, travelers often leave a review behind for other future vacationers to let them know if it was a good place to stay or not.

Online Travel Sites

Sites like Expedia.com and Orbitz.com provide users with hotel, flight and car rental reservations. And to boot reviews on accommodations can be found among them.

There are plenty of sites out there that will help you on your way but here listed are just a few. Nothing is more reassuring than the opinion of someone who has been and experienced something for themselves. Today’s websites aren’t really complete these days without a review section to even let others know how a places service was whether it be a car servicing business or a restaurant. And if they don’t, it’s guaranteed there will be a place created to do so. Travel reviews are no different. In fact, they are probably one of the most important things to review on because quite a lot of money, time and the need to relax is involved with taking a vacation. A ruined experience is quite hard to bounce back from.
