Southport UK - a great family vacation spot
Southport town lies to the north of the city of Liverpool at 16.5 miles and also 14.8 miles west-southwest of the city of Preston in UK. Founded in 1792 by William Sutton when he opened a hotel, where the first houses of this town were built, Southport is the jewel of the North West's coastline and one of the most popular seaside resorts in the UK. This enchanting place is also a residential town. Besides, it is famous for golf.
In 1848, a rail service started from Liverpool to the town, and from 1853, people could go by train to the resort from Manchester.

Lord Street
A particular feature of this town is the extensive tree planting and the rich Victorian heritage. It is more evident in Lord Street, the main shopping area of Southport. The beauty of Lord Street that there are many covered arcades leading off from the main street.
Napolean III of France is said to be lived here during his exile period, and he was said to have inspired with the ornate Victorian covered walkways and arcades of Lord Street. As a result he had implemented many of the ideas into the design of the Champs Elysées in Paris .

Southport Pier is the second largest pier in England (3,650 feet) and it has a tram that travels up and down the pier. A walk along the pier enjoying the scenery is a pleasant experience, especially in the morning or in the evening.
The Victorian pier alongside its unique manmade Marine Lake with adjacent cafes and bars, boat trips and the popular Mississippi Paddle Steamer for cruises along Southport's historic waterfront, all make this town a most wanted holiday destination.
For Children, there are several things to do in Southport. Hesketh Park lies at the end of Lord Street where children can play and walk around. There is Fun Land which is open on all days. Another great place the children can enjoy is in the Splashword water park.
The children can take a ride in the lakeside miniature railway, the oldest continually running 15"Gauge (38.1cm) railway in the world..
