Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb, Towers, High Climbs, Lookouts in Australia
Bridge Climbs - Australia
There are a many bridge climb, walks adventures and tours available in Australia that are very popular with locals and tourists.
The most popular and famous in Australia is the spectacular Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb which is thrilling, challenging, and scary at times, but is very safe as you are always harnessed to the superstructure.
The famous Harbour Bridge is one of the most loved and well-known engineering structures in the world, especially after the Sydney Olympics. It is still the 6th longest single arch bridge in the world. When completed in 1932 it was the second longest (see the table below).
The view from the top of the arch (the 'coat-hangar as it is called) is fantastic as you can see the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour.
On this unique climbing challenge you will ascend about 1600 meters of steel while firmly secured with a safety line.
The path will take you up steep ladders, across catwalks and through many arches on your way to the top.
This is a great adventure to do with your friend.
Bridge climbs in the world
Tourists can climb only five bridges in the world on organised adventures three of them in Australia one New Zealand, a fourth in China and one in America. Many bridges can be crossed on foot, but these five are the only ones where people can climb to the top of the bridge infrastrcuture.
In Australia, there is, of course the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb which started operating in 1998, followed in 2005 by Story Bridge in Brisbane Queensland. There are also a number of other adventure climbs to scenic lookouts and high places in Australia.
For more details see

In New Zealand - the Auckland Harbour Bridge Climb.
In the USA - the New River Gorge Bridge Climb in Fayetteville, West Virginia.
The Story Bridge in Brisbane opened in July 1940. It has a cantilever span that is 777 m long and spans a bend in the Brisbane River in the heart of Brisbane and connects Kangaroo Point with Fortitude Valley. The bridge has been opened for conducted bridge climbs since 2005.
The Brisbane Story Bridge - Another Great Climb
The climb of the Story Bridge in Brisbane, offers a spectacular view of the Brisbane central business district and the Brisbane River.
The climb is almost 1 km long, and takes you over the steel superstructure of the bridge.
At the top of the climb you will be almost 80 m above the Brisbane River and you can enjoy the unique panoramic views that is only seen by your fellow adventures.
On the bridge climb walk you will hear interesting commentary and information about Brisbane's history and heritage.
The walk takes about two and a half hours and there are climbs at twilight, dawn, during the day and at night.
