Six Top Places to Visit in Southern Philippines
Mindanao: My Personal View
It is a sad fact that every now and then travel warnings are issued against going to the Southern Philippines. The southern part of the country is a big island comprised of many provinces. Mindanao, as it is named, is the biggest island among the three main islands of the Philippine Archipelago. It is a fact, and it can never be denied that strife among Muslims and Christians is prevalent, but this is only true to areas where Muslim and Christian co habit but doesn’t co-exist. It’s a shame why these people cannot just do what typical community does, when Muslims and Christians have relatively the same doctrine about fellowship. There is something in the culture and tradition of these people that have gone wrong. How it started, there is no definite point. The only thing that is certain today is they are fighting for each territory, claiming one land after the other, Muslims and Christians alike.
It is awful, it is pretty awful. What is sad about this situation is that the areas that are quite peaceful, calm, and united are dragged into the awfulness of the situation. Only ten percent are Muslims, and not all Muslims are aggressive. These are peace-loving people who even choose to move into some areas in Mindanao where there is peace. If only for this ten percent that Mindanao lose reputation of being a peaceful place for all tourists to visit, then it is unfair, truly unfair. I lived here all 40 years of my life, and I never ever felt any threat, nor any instances that I felt fear for my life. 40 years of pride and safety makes me want this place, over and over again.
On my 40th I got ill, I have spent my healing moments in one place, something that I can take pride of. This is the reason why it hurts me so much when this part of the country is declared unsafe for foreigners to visit. It has been 40 years but I never felt any threat, nor felt a threat for my foreigner friends; so let me share this place to you and show you the things you can do when you visit this place.
Cagayan de Oro - White Water Rafting
With white water rafting as the major attraction paired up with caving and zip-lining, no one can resist the warmth and the friendliness of the people from Cagayan de oro. Known as the gateway of Northern Mindanao, a one-day stay is definitely worthwhile.

Bukidnon - Dahilayan Adventure Park
Ziplining in Dahilayan is more than any definition of fun. Tagged as the longest in Asia, it poses a lot of challenges....definitely a must-try. Located less than an hour away from Cagayan de Oro, Manolo Fortich in Bukidnon is the right place for vacation. A great accommodation awaits those who want to extend their stay.

Camiguin - White Islands and Springs
Mystic, as it is fondly called, Camiguin offers rural living at its best. This is perhaps the most relaxing vacation all-year -round. The White island getaway captivates the movie-like imagination, just like a hollywood scene that can never be forgotten. Immerse yourself with cold springs and hot springs alike, that the island is abundant of.

It is always nice to go back to Dakak, a beach resort in Zamboanga. A nice swim and captivating scenery packs the whole stay with a Fantasy Land tour, their very own version of Disneyland, plus a nostalgic trip to memory lane with Dr Jose Rizal's (National Hero exiled in this place a long time ago ) shrine in Dapitan.
Beautiful Dakak!
