The Beach Or Mountains ?

Updated on February 5, 2013

Do you prefer the beach or mountains ?

When I saw this question I knew I had to answer it as I love spending time at a beach - not the ones in built up areas so much but ones away from the hustle & bustle of town .

I also love being up in the mountains enjoying the views of valleys below and knew I couldn't answer this question and give both the beach and the mountains justice in a few short sentences as the beach and the ocean has always played a big part in my life as we sailed from Britain to New Zealand when I was 5.

Living in New Zealand we spent a lot of time driving up and down steep hills , enjoying the mountains as well as time on the beach so which do I prefer - Beach or Mountains ?

The Beach

I love snorkeling in these beautiful places.

Beach or Mountains

The beach has a special place in my life as this is where we see some amazing beautiful animals - sea creatures .

I have been fortunate enough to stand knee deep in the ocean at Monkey Mia in Western Australia and feed a dolphin .

While at Ningaloo Reef we sat on the beach of an evening to watch the turtles nesting & I had a huge turtle almost walk over me in its hurry to be back safe in the sea. My husband moved apart & watched as it slowly walked between us - an amazing moment we will never forget.

The next day we swam with a turtle while snorkeling & seeing the amazing world beneath the sea.

I love watching dolphins playing together or seeing a whale swimming by .

My daughters & I would go boogie boarding catching the waves back into shore or just walking along the beach picking up shells enjoying being together.

When we were young we would go pippying in New Zealand with Mum & Dad out Brighton way and then enjoy our fresh pippys for tea .

I remember evenings fishing at Birdlings Flat near Christchurch where like Broome it had the Staircase to the Moon & we had a fire going amongst the stones .

The beach holds so many special precious memories for me over the years from New Zealand - Australia - Back in Wales we visited the beach wherever we could & I even swam in the sea on the East Coast .

Tuncurry Beach

Spent a lot of time here .

Mountains or the Beach

I enjoy spending time in the mountains looking at the view - going for a bush walk - The Blue Mountains looking at the 3 Sisters or going 4 wh driving in Barrington Tops is really nice .

There is something about being right away from the busy lifestyle in the city or town and camping by the river in the hills .

Love 4 wh driving !

Enjoying the Mountains

Karijini National Park

Beach Activities

There is so much you can enjoy doing at the beach.

Horizontal Falls- Talbot Bay

The Beach

I Guess when I go over my life I must say the Ocean has a greater pull as I

Swim in the sea

Boogie board in on the waves

Kayak along the shore

Sail amongst the dolphins

Cruised from Country to Country

Caught dinner fresh for tea

Swam with a turtle

Watched the Wales

Enjoy romantic walks....

Yet in the mountains I go for a walk , swim in a river and enjoy the peace and look to see if I can see the ocean !

Really enjoyed this hub. First of all, the subject attracted me. Its really entertaining as well as informative. :-) I live in the Himalayas, so I have never lived near the beaches. My only memory of a beach is when I'd gone with my family to the Southern India during holidays, and had visited some coastal regions there.

I absolutely loved this one! I live in Florida, so going to the local, out of the way beaches here is common for us, but the mountains are real treat for us because, as you may know, Florida is mostly flat! Great Pix...wonderfully done. Voted Up and Awesome!

Beautiful. I agree, it's hard to choose. Here in California we have both too. I live in the mountains, but grew up in the beach towns. I miss the ocean and need to visit it soon. Voted up and shared.

This hub is a feast for the eyes. You live in such a beautiful part of the world. Luckily I live in the mountains and can be at the beach in three hours. I love hiking and nature, but everyone else in my family prefers the beach. I love it too but sometimes the traffic and commercialism encountered there doesn't feel like a real vacation. Fabulous hub!

Love this hub. Beautiful photos and very detailed hub. I personally take the mountains any day over the beach. I have watched many movies made in New Zealand and every time wish I was there in the mountains.

Tough choice as I love the beach and the mountains also. Really enjoyed reading this. Sounds like you've had some great experiences by the ocean. I have a question? What is pippying? I've never heard the term.

      Well done. Voting up.
