The Delights of Traveling: Bali, Indonesia
One of the top travel destinations for everyone around the world because it has some of the best beaches, views, and things to see.
There are different parts of Bali that are fit for every type of person. If you are a partier, you would most likely gravitate towards Kuta or Seminyak because that is where all the clubs, bars, and beach clubs are located. If you are a surfer, you would probably head to Canggu. While other parts of Bali are also good for surfing, Canggu is where all the surf hostels and schools are and they have the best waves. If you are the type of person that is very into nature and into yoga, you would head to Ubud or Uluwatu.
I have been to Bali a few times, not as a true backpacker I have to admit. I was quite the flashpacker while I was there because as expensive as it may seem from the rest of Southeast Asia, it really isn't too bad for the rest of the world. One of the times that I went was for my cousin's wedding and I have to say that it was probably one of the best weddings I have ever been to in my life. We flew in to Ngurah Rai Airport and went straight to our hotel in Seminyak. Seminyak is a town in Bali relatively close to Kuta, but just a bit more civilized. It is where all the major beach clubs are and let me tell you, Bali is known for the beach clubs. When we arrived at our hotel, I automatically had to get ready because there was a pre-wedding dinner at Potato Head Beach Club, which is an amazing place to hang out. If you are looking for a place to hang out during the day and have some drinks, make sure to check that out. Finn's Beach Club and Ku De Ta are some of the other beach clubs that are pretty popular in Bali.
After a great first night in Bali, we had a free day to explore Bali so we rented a car and went to the rice paddies in Ubud and then made our way to Mount Agung, which is still an active volcano, to grab a drink at a restaurant/bar that overlooked the lake and the volcano. The weather up there was really surprising because it was definitely chilly and actually required a jacket to be up there, which we were not told, so I was freezing my ass off. When we got back to Seminyak, we went to another beach club for sunset drinks and dinner. The next day was the day of the wedding and we moved to Uluwatu, which is where the other half lives. My cousin got married at the Khayangan Estate, which was right next door to the Versace Estate. I got to say that in my years of traveling, this was definitely on the high-end side.
The next time that I was in Bali, I decided to just stay in Canggu because I wanted to surf and from research and word-of-mouth from other people, I was told that Canggu had the best waves. I ended up staying at LayDay Surf Hostel and while I did tell myself that I wanted to spend my time there surfing, a majority of time was spent drinking and chilling by the pool. But, I did manage to catch a few waves while I was there and it was pretty great to get in the water again.
No matter who you are and what you are trying to do, it is very probable that you will find something to do. There are things to do regardless of age, social status, or relationship status. When you are done with Bali, you can hop on a ferry and make your way to the Nusa Islands; Penida, Lembongan. Bali is the destination for many people all over the world and since it is pretty far for most people, why not make the most of it?
