Portland is a beautiful city. It is really hard to pick the top 5 cities when there are so many amazing and beautiful cities spread around America!

Thank you all for the encouraging comments and for sharing your experiences.

Alaska looks amazing!! I lived near Portland, Oregon for six months a couple years ago, I can't wait to go back. It was so amazing, we lived at the foothills of the Cascade mountains so we'd take daily drives up along them. At the top of one of the Cascade mountains, we could look out and see St. Helens, Mt. Hood, and a couple more of the more popular ones out there, I'm having a brain issue right now and can't think of it was breathtaking on a daily basis. We could see Mt. Hood from our house and we drove up the mountain a couple of times. It was amazing:)

They are great photos and really bring the cities to life. As a Brit, I just look at them and think 'Wow, how can they be that *big*!

Mind you, I'm moving to Asheville, NC later this year and that's another beautiful (albeit much, much smaller) city!

Thanks Bethperry! I too would love to visit Alaska some day. Perhaps that gave me the bias to include Anchorage in the top five! Thanks for the encouragement.
