Save Money While in Frankfurt
Frankfurt
Frankfurt am Main (commonly known as Frankfurt) is the financial sector of Germany and the Europe. If you think of Finance, Transport &Trade Fairs in Germany, then it is impossible for you to skip Frankfurt.
Frankfurt keeps the business travellers productively busy during the day and offers them a lovely night life after work. The tourists find Frankfurt charmingly beautiful and extremely convenient to go around.
No matter what brings you to Frankfurt - Business or Leisure, you can make your stay at Frankfurt more pleasant by saving money without compromising on work & pleasure.
Three major categories where you end up spending the most during travels are – Hotel Accommodation, Transport & Communication. Would it not be great, if it was possible to save considerable amount of money in the aforesaid categories?
Here are my tips for the travellers to fully enjoy their trip to Frankfurt at the least cost possible.
1. Hotel Accommodation:
The cost of staying in Hotel is the major part of your daily expense.
a. Business Travellers:
In Frankfurt during most of the months trade fairs are happening due to which it is extremely important to do your hotel bookings as much in advance as possible. You would be surprised to know that people who visit trade fairs every year confirm their hotel bookings 6-12 months in advance. If you happen to visit Frankfurt during any popular trade fair without any prior hotel booking then you will be ripped off.
b. Tourists:
Tourists should try and opt to travel during the periods when there are no trade fairs in Frankfurt. They can easily check this by visiting the website of “Messe Frankfurt” (the company which organises fairs in Frankfurt). If it is not possible to plan your travel during no fair periods then please try to book your hotels well in advance.
c. Choose the Right website to Book the Hotel :
There are many websites through which you can compare and book the hotel of your choice. There are some websites which does not have many options to choose from, there are some which charge you a big fee for booking through them and there are few where your credit card gets debited as soon as you book. Choose the one which does not debit your credit card in advance rather gives you freedom of paying hotel itself while checking out. By doing so you can retain your credit balance on the card and in case you cancel booking in advance then you do not have to keep a track of payment refunds on credit card.
d. Choosing the Right Hotel:
Do spend time in browsing hotels and checking the amenities provided by them to choose the one most suitable for you. It is worth spending sometime browsing it saves you from getting aftershocks like – paying additional for breakfast, paying for parking of your vehicle, paying for pets, paying for internet etc. Browsing also gives you an idea of the prevailing hotel rates. Do not forget to check the Terms & Conditions for cancellation if you think your travel dates may change. In case you are not sure choose a hotel which allows you to cancel up to 24hrs prior to your check in date.
e. Location of Hotel:
If you wisely choose a hotel you can save cost of travelling. A hotel chosen near to the place where you plan to visit the most during your stay, will save your time & money. While booking hotel do check the map of the city & try to estimate its distance from your main place of visit. This takes little time but it is very useful & makes you select a convenient location. In Frankfurt local trains have a very good network. So, try and choose a hotel which is close to any train station. This will save your commuting time & prevent you from spending money on taxi.
2. Transport:
The train network of Frankfurt is fantastic. It is very well planned and it connects different parts of the city brilliantly. The best part is that you can start using the trains as soon as you land at the airport. There is a train station at the airport. You can go directly to the ticket booking officer show him the address of your hotel and get to know the closest station from the hotel. The officer will give you the print out of the map if needed; he will book the tickets and help you out with the train numbers as well as platform number. I have always found the officers present there to be very cordial & helpful.
My advice is that you use the trains as much as possible & save money. If you are going to a new place, then before leaving the hotel first understand at the reception of the hotel how to reach the address via train link? Make a note on the map, mark train numbers & then leave. If you do so, you will always feel very confident & comfortable while travelling.
3. Communication:
If your cell is on roaming then please avoid making calls from it. Either buy a local sim card to make cheap calls or use various VOIP/ internet telephony options to communicate. In almost every hotel you get free internet connection. So sending emails is always going to be free from Hotel, do use this facility, rather than sending emails from your cell phone & paying hefty roaming charges.
Another good option is to buy World Calling Cards to make calls. You may choose the best card for yourself as per your needs from the plenty of options available.
