London has many great sites, as you say. I've been there often as I used to live a mere 50 miles from there, on the south coast. I'm not a city person and there are better capitals than London (e.g. Paris) but it's still a great place to see. I just wish it were cleaner!

The museums are wonderful but you need a few days at least just to appreciate one of them!

October can give you great weather, as last year and this. Last year a friend and I went to see the Poppy installation at the Tower of London, then took a river taxi to the London Eye, the views from which were spectacular, then walked up past the Parliament buildings to St James' Park, before taking a bus up to Kensington Gardens to see the statue of JM Barrie's 'Peter Pan'.

Good tips here and a good overview of the city.
