Traveling With Kids--A Mother's Guide
Mom's Preparation Kit
Being a mom of a 7 and 15 year old traveling has been quite an experience for me. My experience with traveling with children is hearing them say " Are we there yet ?" and then five minutes later the same thing over again. I'm pretty sure we all have experienced this one time or another. I also have learned that traveling with children, safety has been top priority when preparing on the exciting ride. When I travel with my children I always make sure before we go anywhere that the car has been serviced and that the tires are in traveling condition and the tank is full of gas. I also always make sure I have a first aide kit, and kiddie kit with me.
The traveling kit includes: A blanket for each child and at least a dozen bottles of water, toilet paper for those emergency stops and we must not forget the multitude of snacks. It also includes two flash lights, extra batteries, 3 to 4 flares, a few cans of Raviolis', Os a can opener and plastic silverware. I always make sure I carry a cell phone with me either with service or without service because either way in the event of an emergency you can always call 911 for free. Carrying these things are a necessity when traveling with children you never know when an emergency could arise and you are stranded.
When traveling with children especially on long trips children tend to get bored so the mom tnat I am we must also include: Traveling games to keep them occupied many stores such as WalMart, Target, Kmart, and ToysRUs carry traveling games as well as video games to entertain the wee one the medium size child traveler.
How wonderful technology if by some chance your vehicle comes equipped with a Mini-HDTV placed on the upper part of your vehicle or on the back side of the seat then low and behold it is movie time in mommy's moving van. Keeping a child entertained is not as complicated as it may appear to be. We also have sing-alongs and play "I spy" as we are cruising down the road. We normally travel at night and map out our route to our final destination making certain that there are plenty of rest areas and restaurants along the way. Traveling with children can not only be an adventure it can also be an exciting time to bond with your children again. If you are a parent take the time to prepare before traveling have them also get involved with packing , preparation and anticipation as you and your family begin your wonderful journey to never-never land.
