Vancouver Sightseeing - A Day Trip on BC Ferries
Sightseeing in Vancouver BC with a BC Ferries Day Trip
If you are planning a vacation to Vancouver BC, I would highly recommend you set aside a day for a trip on BC Ferries. You will experience some gorgeous Pacific Northwest scenery while sailing between Vancouver BC and Vancouver Island or one of the many Gulf Islands.
I would suggest the Tsawwassen to Victoria route for some awesome views. The large comfortable ferries pass through Active Pass, a narrow route between two of the Gulf Islands. Out on the deck you will feel the wind blowing through your hair and smell the fresh scents of the ocean breeze as you take in the magnificent sights. Seagulls dip and soar overhead, following the large boats for miles. You might even be fortunate enough to spot a Killer Whale.
Inside there are comfortable seats with large windows. There is also a cafeteria serving an assortment of hot or cold meals and beverages.
The crossing takes just over 90 minutes in each direction. You can drive onto the ferry, but it is much less expensive to go as foot passengers. If you don't have a vehicle with you, or you wish to save money by going as foot passengers, you can easily access the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal via public transit. Take the Canada Line Skytrain to Bridgeport Station and catch the #620 bus to the ferry terminal. Your ticket from SkyTrain is also valid on the bus. I would suggest purchasing a day pass as that will be cheaper and will cover your return trip. If you start your trip fairly early you can also catch BC Transit bus #70 when you get to the other side and ride into downtown Victoria which is also the capital of BC. You will have to pay a separate fare for this bus as it is not part of the Vancouver transit system. There you can walk around and explore some of the beautiful attractions near the Victoria Harbour including the Parliament buildings and the Empress Hotel.
BC Ferries sail between Tsawwassen (Vancouver) and Swartz Bay (Victoria) 8 or more times every day between 7 am and 9 pm.
